c9sse Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 well i am having trouble choosing an engine for my new project. for start the car is a 100e it will be totaly stripped out with fibreglass panels and a cage. the car is being built for the pod and trackdays. with the car i would like to see low 13s high 12s so what would be the best way to go,did think xe engine but i would like to stay ford and no cosworths as i have 2 already that cost me a fortune. anyone know a engine that could do this with minor mods or how much would a tricked out pinto cost. cheers darren
Wessie Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 if you decide to go non-ford then i say an XE or a jap turbo lump if ya wanna go for then just get a HPE crossflow james's mk2 was flying on sunday saying that i was very impressed by a pre-crossflow mk1 tina
4parajon Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I would think most engines that'll get you in the low 13's & high 12's will be a fair amount of wedge, my choice would be Cossie Turbo.......but I'm as biased as Mark
c9sse Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 really want to stay away from turbos this time. cheers darren
Copey Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 slap a v8 in it!! would have to be a small block though, even then...maybe not
MK2Ed Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Pinto... but then I'm also biased. Nice 2.2 with a good race head, cam and CR should get in the 12's but quite pricey too
c9sse Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 sorry but what would you call quite pricey for that sort of spec also what gearbox is best is there good boxs out there or should i just go cossie t5
Arched Escy Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 sorry but what would you call quite pricey for that sort of spec also what gearbox is best is there good boxs out there or should i just go cossie t5t5 would defo be best and try and get an LSD.
Wessie Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 harris pinto if im right a budget 2.1 using 2.8 capri pistons is around about £1800.....a 2.1 using fords pistons and a full race head is £2800.... a 2.2 with full race everything, complete engine, less carbs is £3800.... so add on a pair of carbs, decent manifold, bigger brakes, possible uprated rear suspension, a pair of slicks, an LSD, a gearbox, a rolling road tune up its never gonna be cheap but those harris engines are awesome . . . . gearbox wise you got the type 9, MT75, 2000e, T5 or an balls out drag gearbox im not an expert on gearboxes but i've heard the type 9 has got shite ratio's
jke549v Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Hi i have just put a nissan 200 sx turbo lump in a 105 angla and its great
DEP Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Pinto mate, best bet is get yourself along to the pod on the 18th, its the next round of the OSFDC and have a chat with a few people. The 3 main engine builders IMO and in no particular order are Vulcan, Colin Ashton (v6 Col) and Ron Harris Expect to pay £3000 plus
deltamal Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 Cossie YB nasp, with T5, pricey, but fun!
James HPE Motorsport Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 If its low 13's and possible 12's then I would look no further than a 2.1 pinto! If you are building it for pod and track days then for sure you will dial abit of lightness into the car and the proof in the pudding is Posse's car! His is a very reliable 187bhp ahe has achieved a 12.7sec pass on the 1/4mile and he uses that car to drive to shows aswell so its a good allrounder in my opinion! Now alot of people will try to convince you that "A pinto is too heavy for a 100E" so if you get this then ignore them! However if you choose to listen then there is always the option for the crossflow! 13's are very possible with a well tuned but still reliable 1700 pushrod engine (and in my opinion sound better then a pinto ) but if you really want to produce good power without reliability issues you would have to go all steel bottom end, then the build would be quite a fair bit more than a 2.1 pinto so my conclusion is..... GO PINTO!!!!! If you need any more info about prices or spec etc then drop me a PM P.S: GWAN THE XFLOW!!!!!!!!
