How much work and parts goes into putting a steering rack from an escort onto a mk2 cortina? Ive been driving my Dads mk2 that hes selling, and im tempted to buy it, fit a rack, capri struts etc and a 1660 into it. Drop it an inch and id be made up.

I used a mk3 Capri X member, just because its 2" wider than the Escort, IMO the escort front suspension suits the Mk1 better,

It is by no means a bolt in swap as a fair amount of fabrication and modification needs to be done, its not rocket science but you MUST have competent welding skills.

you will need to convert the legs to 2.25" coils, and you will need index able top mounts so you can dial in the camber and castor ,the chassis mounts need to be removed the x member trimmed to fit in the correct place on the chassis, then plates made bolted to the chassis so the X member can be welded in position, but also be unbolted if needed,

I made solid steel bushes for the TCa so I new where the sat would be in the correct position with the suspension assembled you can mock up the ARB mounts, I made mine to mount off the original points so that was relatively easy, steering column was made by cutting the cortina column off at floor level, The bottom of the shaft has to be machined and a piece of escort shaft grafted in by welding and pinning, this on mine poked out of the bulkhead by about 2" a new bush was turned up to support the bottom of the shaft, also a outer column support to fix the column to the floor has to be made
