Pye Man Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Why the hell did ford make so many variations in the same parts?! For example mk1 Escort wings... 2dr are different to 4dr and I think even the van and estate are different again. Why? Couldnt have been cost-effective. Any body know why they done this or know of any other similar things?
FlashCadillac Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 im not up on escorts but say with alglias they are all different shapes the van windscreen is bigger and the estate is different therfore the doors are different therfore they wont match up to the wings from the saloon the van windscreen is bigger to get better visability why else? but they also made things easy to swap from model to model (ie cpri struts end up on everything) so you cant have a go at them for doing this
Pye Man Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 Certainly cant for that. It just seems daft to have so many variations of the same part that are going on the same/similar vehicle. When surely the parts could have just been the same?
Dalek Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 im not up on escorts but say with alglias they are all different shapes Yeah, Saloon, Estate and Van the van windscreen is bigger and the estate is different therfore the doors are different therfore they wont match up to the wings from the saloon Yeah the van windscreen is taller. Can't decipher what you are talking about regarding wings.. All the Anglia wings are the same... The van is the only one to have different doors (the ones you get in and out of). The rear doors are the same as a mk1/mk2 escort van... the van windscreen is bigger to get better visability Yeah and so it don't look even dafter with that big high roof and a small windscreen. Cheers Craig

GT_Jim Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i dont get why estate doors wont fit salloons on mk1 tinas i cant see any differnce
Smudger105e Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i dont get why estate doors wont fit salloons on mk1 tinas i cant see any differnce On the Anglia, the saloon doors are the same as the estate, but the roof line of the saloon drops at the back, hwere the estate does not. This gives the impression that the door has dropped on all estates because of the gap between the top trailing edge of the door and the roof gutter. Maybe the roof lines of the Mk1's are too different to allow the doors to be the same?
Copey Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i'm glad ther isnt this problem with Capri's!! only one with diff parts is the mk1, the mk3 is basically a mk2 facelifted!!
emu Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 the van windscreen is bigger to get better visability Yeah and so it don't look even dafter with that big high roof and a small windscreen. It'd be a bit drafty with a small screen too
GT_Jim Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i'm glad ther isnt this problem with Capri's!! only one with diff parts is the mk1, the mk3 is basically a mk2 facelifted!! thats not fair
Gareth Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I dunno why Escort 2 doors have to settle for welded hinges whereas 4 doors get bolt on jobbies

bortaf Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 There was money saving somewhere in the equasion i bet The Mk5 cortina estate is actually a Mk4 shell with smaller windows and doors to the rest of the Mk5s cos ford didn't think it was worth retooling for the rear hatch and back windows Mind you thats usually the reason why parts ARE interchangable, don't make sence does it
