over_head_cam Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 in them old points and go leccy I'd check for a spark at the points too and then look out for a loose connection, short or like Dave says duff condenser
bomber1 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 when i pinto,d my mk1 escort it didnt want to know had spark had fuel took couple of hours with it being jumped of the daily driver then it fired and always has after that not sure but could have been dodgy connection on coil
MEXY867M Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 replaced coil with new one tryed another dizzy that I know is good, new points, condenser, still dosent want to know,am so pissed it`s unbelieverable,
LEONMEX Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 M8 im off next week if you want me to pop over & have a look i will, ive got a spare dizzy & loads of pinto bits
LEONMEX Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Have you got a full 12v at the dizzy or do you run a seperate ballast resistor, you say you've got a spark at the dizzy is that from the coil lead but not at the plug leads??
MEXY867M Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 hello mate, spark is from the coil lead mate,if I havent got her fired up by next week you are more than welcome to come over and have a look it would be most appreciated and many thanks for that, just one question how many earths should there be under the bonnet if you know what I mean cheers DARREN
bortaf Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Have you put both small wires back on the starter solenoid?
LEONMEX Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 You need to earth the battery to the chassis & the engine to the chassis,my earth is from the bell-housing to chassis. Could be a crap earth or is the timing out or leads on wrong. I know you have prob checked all this but its there infront of you & it will be something simple & stupid. Let me know if you need any bits or help, call me on my mobile (p.m. me if you want the number) or p.m. me & ill help all i can.
w p e Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 silly question but have you checked the carbon contact in the cap aint broke? or dodgey rotor arm
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 if theres a spark going to the dizzy then the problem is obviously in the dizzy you said you used a different dizzy which deffo works did you also try different cap and arm and is the dizzy in at the correct position for the timing
fairlane500 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Hey Darren. Sorry the van's giving you greif mate. Not really up on Pinto's but as mentioned it's gonna be something so simple you'll kick yourself I've always found the best thing to do is walk away for a bit then start right at the begining and just check everything in order If that dosn't work mate I'm more than happy to pop over and kick it for ya Sean.
