Miller Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Well, its not mine anymore because I sold it on Sunday, but im sure its of interest to you chaps so here it is. The story with this one was a couple of months ago I got the itch for a fun OSF project as a second car to my escort. I started looking at two door escorts but became disillusioned with cars described as mint or very good turned out not to be when viewing them, especially as although I could afford one it did not leave much of my 3 - 4 grand budget left to do much interesting with them. So, I eventually started looking at Capris, and this one turned up in Bournemouth, was very honestly described, incredibly oringinal and rot free and with a price of £850 I couldn't refuse. I drove back the proud owner of a 1983 Capri with a big grin on my face . It's condition was what sold me, it was pretty much untouched by the welders torch, original strut tops, perfect arches, mint underneath and hardly a trace of surface rust. The only worrying thing was the valve seals witch caused it to smoke on start up. Then it started leaking oil which was worrying but thankfully this turned out to be a loose camshaft seal which we mangaged to pry back in without further problems. It was a lovely car but wasn't the one for me. To be honest I have always loved Capris but had never been in one before and although it was a smooth comfortable and relaxed drive it wasn't really the fun project I wanted in my heart. Sure Capri's can be wild but I was more after a car to thrash on the back roads and the Capri wasn't that kind of car. I wanted something light I could slap a 2.0 pinto in and go out scaring old ladys in. The itch for an escort project re surfaced and regretfully I listed the Capri on ebay. So there you have it, its gone and I miss it. When im older and more "mature" I've promised myself another on. At least its gone to a good home and the lad who brought it was grinning more than I was as he drove it off. Ive replaced it with the Mk2 Estate which, although not as tidy as the capri, is in a thousand times better nick than the two doors I had seen and in my opinion just as cool. Thats going to have a pinto winging its way into it by the end of the year and then the fun begins! Ah well, heres the pics of the capri, enjoy:
Copey Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 looked mint mate did indeed, shame you sold her
Von Loxlee Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 mega clean love it sorry *loved it sold to another osf member?
peterbilt Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Thats the way i like them mate the way the were when they were built
Daveyboy20 Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Ahh! But i spot an aftermarket spoiler!!
Miller Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 I dont think the chap was on Oldskoolford, I totally forgot to ask or mention it to him as it would have been nice to know how it develops from there. I didn't think that was an aftermarket spoiler but then I dont really know much about Capris. I know the wheels weren't original as LS models got steels didn't they? The spare was still a steel anyway. Its a shame I had to sell it as it is by far the best condition car I have ever owned or probably will own again lol. But the neighbors were whinging about the number of "old bangers" and I thought I better not annoy them too much or else they might call the scrap man and have them taken away . I do miss it though it was a lovely car
