i'd say your best to keep em on so you have a smoother airflow, look at burtons or demon tweeks they should stock shorter trumpets

This is an extreme case but heres what happened to mine...

without the trumpets i lost 15 quids worth of fuel to about 20 miles with the filters on.

with long trumpets and no filters i see almost 4 times that.

trumpets are essential to correct functioning of carb in my opinion.

they keep a smooth supply of air going in, you could always ditch the filters and just run trumpets like a lot of ppl do or get some fine mesh and cable tie it over, fine stuff similar to a rice cullinder  i'll dig out some pics of my mk2

well i was gonna post a pic of my 40's with said stainless mesh on but it wont allow me to put pics up cos i havent been egistered long enough, i just cut 4 pieces slightly igger diameter that trumpets folded spare mesh back over and stuck a cable tie round the trumpet to hold it all in place worked perfect and didnt look a mess

hears stories of ppl using tights but i wouldnt suggest it as they could be sucked in

i had split 45s on one of mine.... waste of a good carb if you ask me

the single 45 i had showed no loss in power of the splits (butchered) 45s.
