I need to use a side exit exhaust on my mk1 (aw, shame that!) and i was wondering who else has one.

Also, how did they go about doing it? Did you get one made up by an exhaust place or did you make it yourself? Looks like it may be a little tricky and i want a decent job done.

What back boxes did you use and i am also worried about noise regs on track days.

Cheers all, any info would be a great help. :thumbsup:

i had one on a previous MK5 Cortina - it was "custom built" with all the parts ordered from Demon Tweeks

was about 3 years ago...

sounded wicked :mrgreen::ykt:

Im fitting one onto my mk1 cortina soon.

What im going to do is mark the exhaust where ill be fitting a 45 degree bend, probably after the middle box, then take it off, cut it, cut some slots to allow the pipe to cling onto another one then fit the new 45 degree plus a short pipe and if necissary a hanger and there you go.

After that though im going to take the whole system off them buy all the kit to build one without a silencer from scratch, probably from burtons. If your building from scratch thats your best bet, make a mock up then build a proper one.

How did you guys get round the problem of having to go under the chassis rail? It'll mean i'll have next to no ground clearance!! :?

i've got a side exit exhaust when i'm racing which is straight through and i notch the chassis up where it comes out the side to give it a bit more ground clearance. :wink:

couldn't you run it the other side of the chassis rail from the engine bay? Go under it where it's at it's highest?

Or over it and route it through the inner wing?

I know what I mean anyway...

puddy has one comes out the sill i think :thumbsup:

Correct ,well sort of,it comes thru the rear o/s/r wing :thumbsup:

fitted mine inside the car so I could "slam" it !

it is a big problem otherwise if you wanna run a 3" zorst like I do.

I had to change mine cos it was so loud I had to put a 'bung' in it to keep the noise down even then the mot guy said it was border line, (I know some mot testers dont care) but when I had it on the rollers it restricted the gases so at a guess by pete at sanspeed it was costing me 10bhp!
