thelastbandit Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 I remember when you could buy (or make) a thing known as banded wheels, which were just steel wheels which had had a band of steel added to make them wider, I think they were either illegal or at best dangerous...however that was 25 odd years ago, is there now technology to do this legally and safely? I do not need to widen wheels though I need to make some old racing wheels narrower, I bought these wheels at a show and they need full refurbishment, but they are alloy spokes with a steel rim, is there anyway of successfully getting them narrowed. (This might seem like a stupid question, but if I'd have said in 1977 that you'd be able to watch videos on a device in your pocket in 30 years from now, people would have thought I was stupid ) Cheers
Burns Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 there's someone on here who does banding, i think it is illegal, but who's gonna know without taking the tyre off the rim?
Daveyboy20 Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Its legal if the preson/garage has a certain certificate in welding - i dont know which one though
mossy Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 you can have wheels machined if thats what you mean by narrowing? my mate had 4mil taken off his beemer wheels so that they wouldnt rub when he lowered it. how much are banded steels then?
Stu_B Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Need a Loyds certificate or something!
