how hard is it to change to a 5 speed gearbox in my xflow mk2 i do alot of motorway miles and i think it will be wise and more fuel efficient to stick one in i know you have to move the selector hole back a bit but is their anything else that need changing ie propshaft, gearbox mount, belhousing ?????

any pics would be helpful too thanks :thumbsup:

a s i e r r a type 9 will bolt to the x-flow but u will need to mix and match the clutch to fit. i belive neil105 spped does the clutches. move the selector hole back cut and move the strengthing brace back as well as the gearbox mounts. rs2000 prop should sort the prop shaft out  could u not get away with a 3:54 diff?

Yes Neil has got the correct clutch kit as I bought my replacement from him and it was good quality at a good price. I believe he only has a limited supply of these clutches so best get in touch with him soon.

An RS2000 bellhousing will fit and you need an RS clutch cable.

I had a 3.54 diff in mine when i got it with x-flow and 4 speed and it was fine on the motorway but 1st to 4th gears were quite long and acceleration wasnt too quick so i changed to a 3.89 diff which sorted the acceleraration but motorway driving is quite revvy as im sure yours is now. If you put a 5 speed in with a 4.1 diff you will be lightening through the gears and still have 5th gear for cruising

u dont have to have an ally bellhousing but a longer cable is a worth while investment

All the x-flow/type 9 bellhousings that I've seen are alloy ones (with, I guess, alloy price tags.) Are there std ones around for a better price?

Steve - So I understand you might also need to knock/cut out some bulkhead/tunnel to fit the bellhousing and box.

Errr no you won't.....the 5 speed has crap ratios so it'll never be as quick as a good close ratio 4 speed box, you drive a car with a proper 2000e box and then one with the same setup with a 5 speed and you'll see what i mean. Example - i had a mk2 tina with a 1600 xflow and a deluxe crap ratio box which ran about 19 secs + at the pod, changed the box to a proper 3 rail 2000e box and it ran a high 17 :mrgreen:

take 1 complete t9 out off a sierra it will bolt straight up to the x-flow with the right clutch  yes u are right the bulk head needs massaging into the right size to fit the bellhousing  u may not need to do this with the ally housing. as always it depends on how deep ur pockets are

il second that, 10 years back i was converting 4 speeds to 5 speeds.....now its the other way round.

mines a gen type 3 1600 4 speed...there are NO plans to be ruining it with a 5 speed box of any type.
