johnny_h Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 I have had my car tuned by two well respected tuning centres but each time when driving home I have to fiddle with the dizzy because it is pinking like fook under load. The last time I had it tuned the guy made Ben Morley put on the det muffs while they did a power run and he heard nothing. I was happy with that until I put my foot down on the motorway and it started rattling to fook. Like I say this has happened twice now. Why?
w p e Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 wouldnt say im a expert but would sat first get the dizzy checked[what engine are we talking] if pinto bosch type ive had many that bob weights stick on full advance after high revving this could be a factor in your pinking problems. this noise could also be down to weak mixture at certern rev rangers. weak mixtures gives more power but with the fuel we get now days your better of a bit reacher that will cause less damage and not a great power loss. also to higher compression and our low octane fuel could even be the cause. check the timing against the spec of the dizzy IE 15 degrees stactic at 1000rpm give the car a spanking then witout turning it of re- check the timing if at 15 still then dizzys ok if its moved then time to get the dizzy modded to stop the problem. if all fails retard the timimg a degree at a time and see if that helps. hope this help in some way
4parajon Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 When I last took the capri on Ric Woods rolling road, he set it all up for me and then when he'd finished he gave me the keys back and said "take it for a spin for half an hour to see what you think. Might be worth trying that Johny next time mate

dragaddict Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 set the timing at full advance when the engine is reving 4000 upwards
johnny_h Posted October 10, 2007 Author Report Posted October 10, 2007 try something like 34 total advance Thanks for the replies but you may as well be talking Maltese. I need to get a book on engine stuff coz I know jack!
Rick Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 isnt pinking due to premature ignition? (could be late ignition) after messing with most my cars i got pinking at higher revs. i think i solved it by setting the timing then messing with the mixture screws on the carbs prob better to let someone look at it that knows what theyre doin
abarth78 Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 ok let me tell you in maltese then heheh tija erba u tletin bhala timimg fuq erba tellef rev hehe

flyingbanana Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 I need to get a book on engine stuff coz I know jack! ask jack to have a look at it
Guest MK1gaz Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 The load on the engine is far less when it's on a rolling road than when labouring along in too high a gear at a light throttle opening . Either use the right gear and floor it or just knock a little bit of timing out and it will be fine . It happens everytime mate as rolling roads never road test the car afterwards
joker Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 we dont use rolling road mate here in malta we have but one in a million goes on . we put timing and fuel mixture the right way good running in and on the strip
