yeh but IS IT illegal and hwo do you go round it other than hiding it? :?

my MOT is due next month and i was gonan get the same guy to fit it but he thinks its illegal.

yes they're illegal, mot fail item, even if you hide them from inside you can still find them underneath when the pipes split off into the lock.

same as hydr handbrake.

unless you know a nice mot tester 8)

summat to do with adjusting the brake bias cos technically you can completely stop your back brakes working which therefore is a failure cos they can say your rear brakes dont work!

I cant comment for the legality but as an mot tester I cannot see why they should fail. There is no specific mention of such a thing in the manual,as long as the brakes perform up to scratch on the test then all should be cool. Obviously all testers do not think the same but as I say there is nothing specific to fail a car just because it is fitted with a line lock system.Hope this helps.

bastard

oh well ill email KJ and baz to see how they do it

unless i fit it then just unhook it at mot time and stick in a spacer bit of pipe thing to fill the gap but its a bit of a bitch!

Having just seen the previous comments I must add that the test considers all testable items AT THE TIME OF TEST, not later on when you may use the line lock. As long as the brakes pass the roller or deccelerometer test then all is good,it does not matter what you may do or not do at any other time. The most the tester could do would be to advise that he had seen the line lock fitted.Any number of non testable items could be fitted to a vehicle but may never be used, the tester is testing the vehicle at that time and not trying to predict the future :)

in other words fit it then take it back out and use a little piece of spacer pipe or something? so it looks like a pipe to no-where and back?

so whats the reason for failure then?

no idea why just says in RFR's line lock

sorry to act thick but what does rfr's stand for?

just as a comment all our 8leggers the handbrake only works on the front wheels  i can do awsome burnouts especaly on greasy floors in the tipping sheds :ykt:8)

It'll depend on who tests it.

Find someone who regularly tests custum, kit, classic cars, etc, and there shouldn't be any problem.

I know from experience that MOT tester's opinions differ alot,

I've used four different testers in the past few years, and I've finally found one who loves classic fords! :D

Listen to me folks!! The test involves checking the mechanical brake components and if all is fitted correctly then no fail is possible. As to brake performance the vehicle must meet the minimum efficiency for front rear and overall. If the vehicle achieves this then the line lock is NOT a testable item.

surely a bias pedal box allows you to adjust the breaks too, wouldn't this be the same principal?

i thought that!

baz says he never got brought up on it and KJ says it bollox  so i might get it MOT'd then fit it to be safe

as above

how really can they fail it i would argue with the tester on that one

im not a mot tester but have taken loads of cars for mot (i wait with them) even helped out sometimes as i used to sell second hand cars not so much now though and theres loads of things which can actually pas when they look into it

it shouldnt come into it as far as i can see

think ill just get it MOT'd then get my dads mate to fit it to be safe...then next year ill argue its been there all the time and passed last year

problem solved!

ill MOT it then fit it and argue its been there all along when next year comes round!...(not as if i can use it yet cos i got no lsd so can only do number 1s  )
