Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 can anyone that works in halfords tell me? the cans of 300ml spray paint can you order like a litre of it in a normal tin to stick through a compressor so to speak?
browneskids Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Yeh, they can sell litre bottles mixed at their shop.
GT_Jim Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 yes they can but the nozzles on them suck they break easily but that paint isnt as good as the normal rattle cans they sell
Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 could ford do me a litre or so of paint then? im thinking about taking the fiesta back to its original colour
tim Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 go to a paint supplier will be cheaper than ford or halfords
Noodles Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Rattle cans were about £7.99???? 1 Ltr tins were about £20 been I few years mate.
escort new boy Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 go to a paint supplier like jawel it will be cheaper and they mix what ever colour you like over the counter
Mr.Sumo Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 As said Sam , don"t bother with rattle cans ...any decent paint supplier will mix you up enough paint ....just give them the paint code and Bobs your cousins uncles brother job done .
Noodles Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 My paint supplier stopped doin rattle can so I have to go halfords
flyingbanana Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 £24 a litre from my local paint supplier
Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 it was cosmos blue the black came from a paint supplier that was £26 for a liter on undercoat a liter of top coat and a liter of thinners
yodi Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Dont you know anyone with a Halfords Trade card? Quite a good discount
prefectopop Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 As said go to your local friendly paint factor and they'll be able to mix it up for you. If you have part of the car that is the original colour, it's a good idea to take that with you so they can match the paint exactly (some older colours aren't listed on the mixing systems).
Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 think you would struggle to find any blue on mine now
prefectopop Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 lol well at least you don't have to match it to the inside or anything then! Are you planning on painting it in cellulose?
toad650 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 didn't think you could buy cellulose anymore? N need a licence for the 2pack stuff? Its been a while since i've had the room to spray let alone the time.....
prefectopop Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Yeah you can still buy celly, you will be able to get hold of 2pack if you know what your talking about, just don't ask about application techniques. For safety you should paint it in an oven wearing an airfed mask as its pretty evil stuff...
Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 the black was 2 pac outside with a decent mask on and still made me very light headed
MattJ Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 If you have the correct paint code from the VIN plate, your local paint shop will match the colour. The only issue comes when you are matching old panels with paint to new paint/panels. As you are doing the whole are i think you will be good. Don't bother with halfords though, even your local motor factors will do paint cheaper if you are looking at the rattle can route. The issue is the preporation and how/where you are spraying the car. As Mr Haynes says "bodywork is relative to the time and effort applied" Good look, keep us posted.
