m1c Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 probably seems like a stupid question but I'm havin the trackin done an that's what they asked me! I thought it did? bleedin light steerin if it don't anyway!
4parajon Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 First Laser Ive heard off with it if it has
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 As standard the baby Capri's (1.3, 1.6, 2.0) were never fitted with PAS, although you can mod them to accept it. It is possible that someone has had it fitted before you bought it. One way to tell, is the steering heavier when the engine isn't running???
Rick Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 wouldnt there be a big feck off power steering pump under the bonnet if it did
m1c Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 will av a look. done it assuming it has it, feels really shite to drive. can't decide if its betteror worse.
Univex Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 I would of thought it was obvious lol, bloody barge! I gave a mate (who drives a Civic Type'R ) a go of mine, after one corner he said he didn't want to drive any further.
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Just had a thought... what size are the tyres on the front wheels??? My old 2.0s had 205/60/13's all round, and I thought the steering was quite light. It wasn't until some arsehole slashed 2 tyres that I found out just how light it was. Because of the scarce supply of 205/60's eight years ago, I had to fit 185/60's to the front, and boy, the difference was unbelieveable..... it was so much heavier. Yep heavier, it was actually lighter with wider tyres on

I gave a mate (who drives a Civic Type'R ) a go of mine, after one corner he said he didn't want to drive any further. haha my mate thought my fiesta was heavy, he hasnt driven my capri yet, haha, he's in for a surprise!!
Muttley MK2 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 The larger footprint of the wider tyre spreads the load and makes the steering easier to turn, I have never seen a pinto capri with P.A.S it certainly was never a factory option. You cuold retro fit it but its a big job!! Look for the pump, the reservoir, pipes going to and from the rack, Shouldnt be hard to see
m1c Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 not something i thought about but suprised matey who did it didnt know! youd think someone who works in a garage would know what to look for? anyway. will have to go back an do it again, its not right. unless theres a way of doing it at home?
Muttley MK2 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Why do you suspect tracking? Is there uneven tyre wear? Does the car wander or does it "tramline" What suspension and or steeering components are worn or have recently been replaced. All steering and suspension parts should be replaced in pairs.

Who did the tracking? if they cant tell the difference between power and non power then they should be banned from owning a tool box,let alone working on cars
