The chasis plate should be on the innner wing near the battery tray.

 

The number would also have been stamped close to the strut top on the same side, but the chances of finding one which hasn't had the strut tops replaced is fairly slim.

 

As so many cortinas have been restored/patched up/modifed its not unusal to find no chasis plate or find it in a difference location.

certainlythere should be a vin plate on the offside front inner wing as well as another smaller plate, nothing unusual for them to be missing, There is a company stamping new ones but they need the log book, and Possibly the old plate, there should also be a stamped number on the offside strut top, but unless you are lucky and your car has not been plated, it will not be there.
