bomber1 Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 m8 i have the mk1 with 5speed and the 1300 mk2 with a 4speed. i wouldnt change to a 5speed for the 1300 but would with a bigger engine. just remember u dont have to use 5th if u have got it. just let the engine rev out in 4th. but on motorways u cant beat that 5th cog. plus u can keep a lowish diff if ur in the osfdc. also what tyres u going to use? if ur on 50s get a spare pair of rims with 70s on just to get u down the motorway more comftable
bomber1 Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 i thought you had to move the hole 2 inches? this is not gonna be an easy decision i wanna keep the 4 speed but i want the easieness and all rounded ness of the 5 a 5speed will go in. just need to take ur time and think about the mods needed. ally bellhousing then just cut the behind the gearstichole so it can be turned 180 degrees then move the gearbox mounts back. a days work if u can get a welder to help you. my mk1 was butcherd around the gear stick hole

BIG G Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 i use a type 9 at mo but to be honest its pretty good with the pinto and should be ok with the x flow as well its just first is a bit low geared
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 id stick with 4 speed i used a 5 speed type 9 when i put a pinto in my escort because it was a cheap easy conversion which suited the conversion i did but i love my 4 speed box in my pinto cortina not slagging the type 9 as if i do a similar conversion id use one again but in this case (your case ) id stay 4 speed
