Every village in Germany had one in the local Firestation.

Many are still in use as they are used for local fires only & usually have around 15000 miles on the clock. Gradually being replaced, but the German government isnt in any hurry as they are mint vehicles.

The upsurge in interest has been led by Mk1/2 Transit fans as the vans in the UK are usually total rotboxes only suitable for very brave restorations - also, the German vans had two side doors & a single 'up & over' door which were not available in the UK. The Ford Rallye Sport service barges were similar vehicles. Prices are high as they are so rare because there is no rot & low miles.

I bought mine a year ago. Absolutely no rust, kept in a warm firestation all its life, 8500 miles from new. Drove it 16 hrs back without a hitch. Had to sell it a couple of months back, but I'd have another!
