Has anybody heard of, or had dealings with, John Read Racing Engines of Saltash in Cornwall? I have just bought a Mk2 Capri with a 2.0ltr Pinto and one of their heads on it. I think it's just a bog standard lower end,but I was just wondering, if anybody had had any dealings with them, what their stuff was like. I don't have any problems or anything, but getting info from people that have used the company is,in my mind,a good way of finding out what's what!

John Read is a master craftsman amongst engine builders, and I'd recommend him to anyone. He specialises in XE's and builds them to order for race cars, most of his business going to Ireland. He's local to me and built my 2.2 pinto from the ground up, it goes like greased weasle shit. Do you know what spec your head is?

Here's what my own engine produced on a recent RR session (figures all at the wheels)

3000rpm - 80bhp

4000rpm - 118bhp

5000rpm - 148bhp

5500rpm - 162bhp

6000rpm - 167bhp

6200rpm - 169bhp

Nice one guys. Good to know that he's well known. I'm not sure of the spec. I've got his number so I'll give him a call.Found some numbers on the head and cam,so he should be able to tell me. I just thought I'd "test the water" as it were.
