Guest MK1gaz Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Good thread what I need to know is what these engines go like with a set of carbs and a bit of fiddling etc...I am not interested in power quote bollox etc, I need to know real life, will the tyres light up??? will you beat that chavved up vtr in real life? A standard XE may cost £350 and a zetec £30 BUT a zetec in standard guise with 45's etc hasn't got a hope against a Vauxhall XE with the same bits on . The standard XE's always go well but all the standard zetecs i've ever seen are normally slower by miles
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 A mate of mine has got a standard 2.0L zetec lump in his escort, and to be quite honest I was very surprised and impressed with how well it goes!!! It lights up all the way through 2nd gear and runs smooth as silk!! Another quick and easy Mod for the zetec is fit a Focus steel head gasket as it ups the compression! A bit more oomph and I think I paid 20quid for the gasket Go Zetec and keep it ford!!!
RUSTYPUP Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Have a go in my XE Tina Cookie before you make any decisions. I'm glad I chose XE. The only downside (if you don't like arguing) is all the tossers who want to slag you for not putting a Ford engine in it. But I'm used to all that as I've got a Chevy in my Ford based truck too. My XE 'only' made 157bhp, but it was only on twin 40's. Still ran 15.0 all day with full interior and no lsd.
aled Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 XE is a terrific engine. Got one in my Mex. However, bit of ribbing from the Ford die-hards has made me disguise the red-top. Good thread about XE's here: http://www.sbdev.co.uk/History_files/Hi ... EBeast.htm Before: After
aled Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 That's a tasty XE Escort mate Why thank you
bmxdave Posted November 11, 2007 Author Report Posted November 11, 2007 Fitting either engine can be a fairly big job. But the cost of getting the XE modified to fit properly may be the same as buying the cams for the Zetec. Then id have to rip the Zetec apart to fit the cams whereas i can drop the xe in without having to change internals. I think itll be XE. Im not really arsed about the Vauxhall engine in a Ford thing, at the end of the day its my car, if your going to say anything about it build your own Zetec Cortina and be quite about mine.
