cossiematt Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Why does there seem to be such a difference in price between the mk1 mexico and rs2000? I see the rs2000's go for around twice the price of an similar condition mex after all the have the same shell and the engines can be swapped easily enough, just thought I'd ask!
tim Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 mostly down to demand, there are more mexs out there than rs2000,yes u can swap the engines but why buy a mex and pinto it,might aswell get a 2 door shell and pinto that, most people who buy mk1/2 rs buy then cus they like the orginal or close to
Admin Vista Posted November 11, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 11, 2007 As Tim says, Demand and availability. The mex is the most widely available Mk1 AVO model, RS2000 next and then the Twin cam and RS1600 which can now command £20'000+ price tags. As to swapping the mex for a pinto not bringing it's value up, part of that value is down to originality, change it about too much and you lose some of that value. That's why I spent so much getting a really good pinto into mine when I could have achieved a lot more from a YB install. P.S. How's the Mex coming on mate?
cossiematt Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 The mex is coming along nicely, i've finished the repair of the inner wing, thats looking good. Had to take the carbs with the inlet manifold off as coolant was leaking out between the head and manifold, thats all in hand. Along with a new ashley exhaust as the old one had a hole every 5 inches! Also waiting on a set of black samco's as the originals all felt a bit past it. The car is currently in my garge, up on axle stands waiting for me to give the underside a thorough clean! And i'm also debating whether to get a new set of alloys as i'm not too keen on the orange 4 spokes So i've got plenty to be getting on with, but hopefully it'll be back on the roads shortly after christmas Cant wait[/img]
Admin Vista Posted November 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 12, 2007 You can redo the alloys quite cheaply yourself mate, certainly much cheaper than replacing them Strip all the paint of with Nitromorse and wash them down thoroughly, then take all four / five as a set to Plymouth Metal polishing, they charged me £20 a wheel 2 years ago and they came back like mirrors. Then mask them up and paint the spokes with your chosen colour, black or grey (they were grey originally when new) Here's a before and after shot of mine, (ignore the white wheel) And the colours from new
cossiematt Posted November 16, 2007 Author Report Posted November 16, 2007 They've made a top quality job of your wheels vista, that might be an option for me but I'm possibly going to go down the 7 x 13 route as I have to get 4 new tyres anyway
