young un Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 been looking at halfords stuff and the big 99.99 set dusnt hav any a/f sockets in it - is this ok or not seeing as its osf's i wont to work on
Deano1351 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Torque wrench, feeler gauges, multimeter, electrical crimps and connectors, trolley jack, axle stands, how far do you want to go? Welder, tin snips, angle grinder, the list goes on but i cant survive without any of these and theres plenty more to go, tools are there to be bought as and when so its best to start of with the basics and then add and add as you go along
Deano1351 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 been looking at halfords stuff and the big 99.99 set dusnt hav any a/f sockets in it - is this ok or not seeing as its osf's i wont to work on You will get by without a/f sockets and spanners, generally a 1/2 inch is 13mm and 11/16 is 17mm and 3/4 is 19mm, people will have a go now saying you should never use the wrong spanner on things but hey, im a cowboy

young un Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 so basically all i need is: descent af/metric socket set descent af/metric spanner set descent set of screw drivers descent af/metric allen keys some pliers and a big hammer??
Burns Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 yep, that'd be a good start, you might have to buy other things when you get to them, but just get them when you need them
young un Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 now i know what to get its a shame i hav no car or no money - just spent wt is accessable to me on golf clubs just last onths so that leaves me with like 30 quid lol
bmxdave Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 And for when things go wrong, some duct tape, zip ties and some silicon sealant. Some of the things ive seen bunged up with silicon would make you never get the bus again. For starters you just need the most basic of basic stuff. Spanners up to 19mm (id stick to metric tbh, until your starting to really get into it, then just buy specific A/F's seperately). A Hammer obviously. Basic ratchet set of 1/4 inch or half inch with the same sizes as the spanners. Adjustables are VERY handy. Some Allen keys too, with a little bar for extra leaverage. A decent breaker bar too, itll really save a lot of misery. I started out working on buses using a very cheap top box set, which as you may guess, didnt last long. I think on a car it wouldnt be too bad though. From what broke in my kit i learnt what i needed and what i didnt. Hopefully by the time youre driving youll have the right kit so that when you car breaks down you can fix it yourself
young un Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 wat are adjustables??? and also wats a breaker bar???
