Smudger105e Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Went to the local scrappies with Burns today, and spotted an MR2. Could use that engine for my Anglia thinks me, so we blag our way in to see it. Obviously don't look in the front for the engine We're not that silly. Look in the back for the engine, just a boot there! silly enough for that. Problem is, looked under the engine cover and the engine was not there either. Gone Now still wondering if I should go MR2, Zetec or hot pre-cross flow...
surfingturnip Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 wankel rotery? of a mazda variety? there are lots of tuning bits and its fun to say
Smudger105e Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 No, just a 4 pot N/A 16 valve 1600 I think they are...
surfingturnip Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 is it a common conversion for the mr2 engine then?
Smudger105e Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 I am told that it is a fairly easy fit, must be a series 1 MR2 though.
Fiesta Steve Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 The Mk1 MR2 engine (4age) really is a modern day BDA (not like the zetec) It has the same bore as a BDA, the same stroke as a BDA, the same size valves as a BDA, same size and shape ports as a BDA. BUT... the crank, rods and pistons are stronger than BDA, the cylinder head design is far better than the BDA. 200 bhp is easily achieveable with very little work. Convinced yet
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Hot Pre Cross mate. I am building a warmish one for mine... Old Skool Cool Or Zetec
Burns Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 that would have been awesome if that one was ready, we could have started it already i still reckon zetec...
Burns Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 might have clearance problems with that manifold
russ105e Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 4AGE is a great choice for a 105e.Have a word with Neil on 105speed.com a he has something in the pipeline
Smudger105e Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Yeah, Neil reckons he can get 20 valve MR2 engines with under 30K on the clock imported from Japan for under £600. Mmmm
