Just as an idea of what spec you could expect from us for 1500 quid-

2.1 with Cast V6 pistons with increased compression ratio

A nice head

A nice cam

Standard rods and crank (maybe reground depending on our stock)

Lightened flywheel

A nice reliable 180-190 bhp (and a shed load of torque)

If you wanted to stretch your budget a little more and go for forged pistons then you would see the magic 200bhp number!

In all honesty you would have to double your budget to go 2.2!!!

Sorry to hijack, what carbs would that need?(I assume they're not inc in that price) And that figure at the flywheel yes?

i would say pinto or xe, pinto has got more toque low down and the xe has a lot more power top end, my xe pulls like a moter bike hitting the power band and the reason i bought it was because it was the first car in 6 years to scare the crap out of me, if your thinking about xe speak to wayne (wpe) he was the one who built my engine originally :mrgreen::mrgreen:

a few people i know have got rebuilt XE's with headwork , cams , 48's etc etc BUT they still can't beat the Pintos in a race  . It's not all about "peak bhp" pub figuires i'm affraid . If you want to beat a stout 180 bhp pinto in a race then you best get £10,000 together for something exotic :ykt::thumbsup:

My choices of engine, in order of preference were:

XE

Zetec

4AGE

Pinto

I've done the Zetec so am considering something else. Both the XE and Pinto requires a quite bit of bulkhead work, which I'm happy to do.

just biuld a simple pinto and have fun with it

Don't worry it's for sale £50

I think i'll keep the air filter and fit it at dusty car shows etc instead of sucking all that shite down my bores :shock::shock: . I may make an angled inlet manifold so i can fit a larger deeper filter and then see what power that loses . They tested all the airfilters in Redline Magazine this month using a flowbench and the best ones only allow 79% of the air to flow through them !!!!!!! = not very good then

You don't even need 200 bhp , they go like stink with much less as they have a huge power band . A stroked cranked 2.2 pinto goes like a bastard as seen in most of the quick oldskoolfords these days . Lots of ways to do it but it's depending on your budget and intended use . Basically you could use cheap 2.8 V6 pistons and either x-flow or 1600 diesil rods or use forged pistons and/or aftermarket steel rods for a circuit race car etc . People who've never experianced one won't believe it but they honestly go like fooooooook and you'll need a mega expensive 16v engine to keep up with one

Fook me for once we agree on something!!

With a wild cam a stroked 2.2 will give well over 200bhp, but if you want it to be properly driveable then you're better toning the cam and carbs down a little. You'll still get a very wide power band with superb torque and a good peak figure around or just under 200bhp. Mine runs on 45's and is just short of that figure but has masses of grunt from around 3000rpm. I'd go with the forged pistons rather than the cast ones if your budget will stretch to it though.

I have to agree. :ykt::thumbsup:

That is flywheel figures.!! & The carbs are not included in the price, although we have several sets of 45s/48s/& 50s, which we would prepare to let go at cost if anyone was interested in one of our engines..!! :):ykt:

I have seen a few pintos on here that are strapped with the Eaton superchargers off the new mini. Do the make a great deal of diffrence or are they more "show" than "Go" :?
