ratman Posted December 16, 2007 Report Posted December 16, 2007 when surfing retro rides I came across a build of a twin engine mk Three escort and on page 7 I find this I hope the previous owner was a grass-track racer or simular, and that painting a 3 foot Garfield on his bonnet wasn't his attempt at styling, but was merely some sort of humourous racing livery, or an 'in joke' about the racer's chosen orange colour scheme. I find it strange that the artist painted Garfield sticking up his middle finger, with "HI!" written next to him..... You may also notice that Garfield seems to have human fingernails...... Best not to think too deeply about these things. this is my reply I nearly sh1t a brick when I saw this picture this bonnet was on my RWD MK three escort I raced on the grass (as you suspected) back in the very early nineties the Garfield was a playful dig at a fellow racer the gold tooth and fingernail was also a dig as the guy spray painted car bits gold and sold them as race parts (although they was still standard bit painted gold :) It was painted by my brother in law on his living room table and his wife got the right hump the best bit she is now my wife Its a very long story It was sold when I built a Toyota starlet really surprised that it has survived 17 odd years although its lost one of the ducts this is one of the only pic I have of the car with the p1ss take Garfield bonnet (sorry its a crap photo) good luck with it What with my old starlet popping up twice on E-bay I wonder what else of my old sh!t is still out there
