mk2 stu Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 I'm thinking about going carbon on my mk2 build, I'm going for classic paintwork with a nice stripe but looking at carbon fibre bonnet, bumpers, spoilers? whats everyones opinion? I know its not the purist's choice ( sorry to malcom and the anorak crew!) But i'm going for that one off look, if i'm gonna spend the time and effoert doing all this work i want it to stand up in a crowd!
Mr Sam Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 deffo treat it to some carbon goodies there seems to be alot of carbon bits coming out for the old stuff now
Mark2Mark Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Do it mate!!!!!!!! especially bumpers etc i have not seen many c/f bonnets though so i don't know what they fit like? I was thinking of a fibreglass bonnet for my mk2 but after seeing a few the finish is not great, ok for race/rally cars where weight is more important than looks but if you are going to town on a road car you want it to look right!
mk2 stu Posted November 3, 2006 Author Report Posted November 3, 2006 Yeh i know, i'm sure plenty of guys hate it but i think against a white paint job it'll really set it off, jus mailed the guy at custom carbon to see what kind of deal we could do on a on a one off front spoiler? love the look of the bumpers and bonnet though!
D A N Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 On a white car things like corner bumpers loo subtle yet effective.

samurai Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Yessssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also phoned up for a carbon bonnet at this other place and when it came it had a gel coat over it! and i didnt think anything of it and one time i came home from work to find someone had tried to jump on it and kick the bonnet and i could see all the glass fibre hanging out! + the heat of summer just cracks the paint it like mine and the galss fibre melts in the heat! really bad!!! So really it was a glass fibre with a single sheet of carbon which dont look carbon to me!! and it cost me £200.Some where called smith and dekins or something!!! Real carbon is really expensive, maybe ask SBD where they got theres from as there westfield they had while i worked ther for 1 week had a real carbon front end Call custom carbon to ask for sure.I think i had a chat with them months back and they said it was plastic.it was over ebay because they sell on there.
