boXXer Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 my uprated organic AP is slipping a bit now, and im changing the box soon anyway so i wanna do the clutch at the same time. What would be best for 190hp? i have a 6 paddle Alcon in my 3dr cossie, and its great to drive with, and handles 360hp 400lbs torque easily. is there one about for the pintos? or would you go with something else? Cheers! Mike
Guest MK1gaz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Get a sprint cover and a paddle centre from burtons mate

Guest MK1gaz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Yes all A.P. bits mate . Part no CP2511-1 (sprint Pinto clutch cover) approx £154 and CP5354-38 (cerametalic/4P centre plate) approx £110 . Prices are what mine cost last summer + VAT etc
boXXer Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 thanks gary although i was after a 6 paddle as they are more driveable arent they? whats the 4 paddle like in traffic bud?
Guest MK1gaz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Mines ok mate . I've got a hydraulic clutch though which is supposed to make it easier than with a cable but i don't know for sure if it actually makes it better or not .
James HPE Motorsport Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 hydraulic clutch will make it easier to use, personally I wouldnt bother with a paddle clutch, just the normal AP sprint clutch will be fine for 190bhp!
stan the dj Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 my uprated organic AP is slipping a bit now, and im changing the box soon anyway so i wanna do the clutch at the same time. boXXer Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 alrite stan going to pick the box up in me lady's motor, so all good. Thanks very much for the offer though. HPE: You on about this one.... https://www.burtonpower.com/dets_produc ... t=CP5351-1
kevmk2 Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Ive always run a 4 paddle clutch with heavy duty cover, never had any problems with slipping And that was on the two old pintos that i had, 190bhp and 220bhp I say put it in once and forget about it, or put a lower spec one in and probably end up changing it again You drive your car hard like i do and want it to be reliable, stick with the paddle, you know it makes sense
boXXer Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 yeah thats what im thinking kev. Cant be arsed taking the box out every couple of months to do a clutch, lol. What they like in traffic/everyday use? plus im doing the OSFDC this year and some drift days, so its gunna have a hard life, lol.
kevmk2 Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 They are a bit hard on the old foot, just have one leg like Arnie I used to use a mk3 cortina clutch cable i think it was (ask Arron at HT's to be sure), its a nice and long cable (ooh eer) Then you can keep it away from the exhaust manifold heat, maybe worth wrapping it too, thats if you havnt already. But a new clutch with new cable wont feel that bad when you push the pedal down When are you planning on going to burtons? I need to go there myself next week, i usually get maximum trade discount when i go in there, could help you out, cos they are not cheap as you know
boXXer Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 no they aint cheap mate! I get paid next thursday, so will get it then. When ya going down mate? might make the trip with ya or something
James HPE Motorsport Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 thats the one Im talking about, the only thing I would say about a paddle clutch is it is designed for racing and circuit cars only pull away a few times so they are not designed for everyday road use and you will wear one out quicker than a normal type due to less surface area! The sprint type AP is more than good enough, its what I will be using for my 2.2!!! My uncle uses 30 quids worth of cheap crap from Precision clutches which has worked a treat so I think a paddle clutch is a bit overkill personally!!!
kevmk2 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 no they aint cheap mate! I get paid next thursday, so will get it then. When ya going down mate? might make the trip with ya or something Im going there tomorrow mate, i can ask Paul or Altay to put one to the side for you with the discount for when you go to collect it
