If its not one thing its another :(

getting the 72 Capri out of storage and ready for daily driver duty, its been driven a bit over the winter, mainly round the bloke every few weeks, havent had any issues. well, not many.

but.

looks like the front brakes are sticking on good and proper, only got down the road this morning and had the front right pulling like mad on braking, jacked it up and the front right brake was stuck good, let it cool off and was able to drive it back, got in the garage and now looks like the front right is doing the same thing.

what do you reckon brake gurus? will a few hot and cold cycles trying to drive it free the brakes off, or are they knackered?

were the brakes red rusty?? is so you will need to change thhe discs and pads, or if you are lucky give the discs a good seeing to with some coarse emery cloth, but I would bin the pads, they will be full of rust particals whivh will not go away and will eithr kill the discs or at a minimum glage up and never be any good.. Probably find just taking the pads out, and putting a G clamp on the piston to fully retract them, probably find its more likely the pads have jammed due to rust in the calliper rather than the pistons sticking, clean the pad bearing areas on the callipers and give a light smear of copperslip, hopefully do all of this and everything should be OK

not really much rust, just a touch but that cleaned off almost instantly on driving,

pads are properly jammed in there, reckon the piston might be siezed, hoping to take the whole lot apart tommorow if i get a chance. maybe soak everything in WD40 to free it off and grease it all up.

Be carefull of WD40 and brakes, it destroys calliper seals, I rebuilt a set of calipers, and not having any correct lube, I built them up with WD40, went to put them on the car and the rubber was about thice the size it should have been and soft and spongey.

you can buy proper brake cleaner in a can. prob better off replacing the shoes though and minting up the inside of the drums
