antz Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Ive noticed a few people have breathers on their rocker covers and breaters on catch tanks etc etc etc....why are they there? do i need one for my 1700 xflow or will i be ok without it? help me im confused
escort21 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Tuned xflows tend to breathe a little more than standard....most people fit a oil catch tank and connect the breather pipes up to that to catch oil in the vapour and then vent the rest through a filter
4parajon Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 If you dont fit one everything under the bonnet will eventually end up with a fine layer of oil covering it, thats if you need one. I needed one so made my own as I did'nt like what was on offer. Ratsport who sponsor OSF have some at good prices and I think I remember RF did a feature on running a line back into the sump.
Noodles Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Need to make sure it can breath enough as well other wise it will shoot out the dip stick tube like mine did
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 25, 2008 Admin Report Posted February 25, 2008 Alimax have lovely ones as well .... here is mine >>>>

Noodles Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I found those little filters dint work for me
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 25, 2008 Admin Report Posted February 25, 2008 All works fine for me Think they're around £45 according to the post in his room - you could always give him a ring to check http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=34306 In situ:
Wessie Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 i've got 5 on my mini engine vizard recons 2-3hp can be lost due to a badly breathing engine and im only running 5 cos my last 3 engines were shite ( i had a spring holding the dipstick in place ) so i dont want to risk blowing up another engine
antz Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 just one on the catch tank will be ok?
escort21 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 connect the breather in the block to the tank and the breather from the oil cap to the tank as well...saves getting oil all over your shiney engine
antz Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 woah!!!!!!!! breather on my oil cap?....i gotta buy another oil cap?...bloody hell! breather on the block...hmmmm i cant remember where that is off top of my head but that seems sensible...

Halfords off the shelf
antz Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 cheers for the offer burnsy but ill get one from halfrauds cos its off the shelf...all these little expenses i never thought about
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 26, 2008 Admin Report Posted February 26, 2008 mossy - dunno mate, you'd have to ask v6col who built the engine but Noodles may well be right
Muttley MK2 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 You are building a xflow arent you? If so your original cap will have a filter in it. To connect a pipe to the catch tank you will need a cap from a ohv fiesta as that has a closed breather with a pie connection and will fit in your xflow rocker cover
Burns Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 cheers for the offer burnsy but ill get one from halfrauds cos its off the shelf...all these little expenses i never thought about they do black ones and yellow ones for about a fiver (looked when i was there today)
