corsair dean Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 the most popular skool of thought seems to be that a v6 makes most sense for my corsair so now the big question has anyone out there done this conversion and able to give me some tips or advice???
hotrodholty Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 the most popular skool of thought seems to be that a v6 makes most sense for my corsair so now the big question has anyone out there done this conversion and able to give me some tips or advice??? forget the v6 mate, put a 3.5 rover in it. cheaper to buy/maintain, lighter, more torque, more scope for tuning, sound better, and about the same mpg. my dad had one years ago, brilliant car.
corsair dean Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 but how much cutting about and welding is going to be needed to get it in??
hotrodholty Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 but how much cutting about and welding is going to be needed to get it in?? no more than a v6 i would have thought, dimension wise there is'nt a lot in it
jed Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 hi mate no cutting or welding the only alteration are engine mounts and ex manifolds and you need v6 zephyr sump and oil pick up and use your old v4 timing chest if your engine comes from a 3litre capri ive got a v6 in my garage built for a mk2 cortina and it never got used other than that its a easy conversion any probs give us a shout and im only a short distance away from ypur area jed
V8ian Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Been done LOADS of times, Even the Ford 60s rally team used Abbot Estates with V6s as service barges, Superspeed and Crayford [i think] did V6 conversions, V4 X member, V4 engine mounts, front cover off a V4 or V6, Front bowl sump from a Mk4ZZ 3.0V6, if you want to fit a 5 speed you have to source a Mk1 granada 2.5/3.0V6 bellhousing, I have the part number somewhere, but they are quite rare and fetch Sh-t loads on Fleabay, TBH I think its an auful conversion, the engine could be moved back probably 8" without having to touch the Bulkhead, so you will have a fooking big heavy engine hanging past the front X member, But why the engine is not moved back is all down to the Gearlever position, and I think the Rover would be a better option as its lighter than the V6 and as said before sounds better, if you want to keep it all ford, fit a Small Block Ford 302/5.0, Much, much cheaper to build than a Rover, and not much heavier, fir Ally heads and it will be lighter than the V6
corsair dean Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 now another dilema then!! v6 or v8!! so many decisions!! ahhhhhhhhhhh!
