jasaceuk Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Hi, around 18 years ago, i swapped two datsuns for a mark 1 escort, after 6 months of use it promptly fell apart with a bad case of rust and wood rot, yep it had a plywood floor hidden under the carpet and filler! luckily fate struck and an elderly gentleman was selling another escort down the road, after a bit of haggling due to smoky engine and a knock in the back, £80 changed hands. The car was taken back where the original 1100 engine was changed for a 1300, front legs were upgraded from drums to discs, servo was fitted, weber carb was fitted, then back was beaten out, had two new front wings, channels, and "metal" front floor plans, suspension tops were plated and all sprayed in primer before the money ran out, the car was used for around a year before being replaced by a company car, at which point it was resigned to my parents drive. New girlfriend came along and car was trailered to rest in her garage for over 13 years, split up, so car was trailered back to parents, met new girlfriend, got engaged, bought a house, yes, had car trailered to my new home. New wife to be in september nagged " what exactly are you doing with that car", " i'm going to get it back on the road" i replied and promptly stripped it to a shell on stands in the drive. I've recently installed new floor pans as the old ones had begun to rot again and i am doing other bodywork details at present, i have bought a 1360 xflow block, stage 1 unleaded head, piper fast road cam, halogen headlights and numerous other parts that sounded good at the time ready for the days when i have nothing better to do. So thats me and my car, cheers and thanks for your time reading this
