A filter is cheaper than a new lorry aint it ?

At the moment the LEZ only covers lorry's which if are not new enough cost £3000-£5000 to be converted so that they pass the emissions test which for older lorry's will have to be taken every 12 months but if the lorry is newer than 2002 i think:? then it does not have to have any tests or anything

And by 2010 the LEZ will include all diesel vans and even campers over 1.25 tonnes that are registered before 2002. The vans/campers that are before that have to be converted which costs around £3000 and then they have to have an emissions test every 12 months

So to be honest i think it would be cheaper and easier just to sell your old van/camper and get one thats newer than 2002

Either that or we cause enough mayhem by roadblocking etc to stop them going ahead with the law on the vans/campers :ykt:

There however is nothing that can be done about the lorry's as that law has already been passed

No they don't HAVE to be converted it would be cheaper to change to petrol (as i am) £3000 will buy you a hell of a lot of petrol engine/box ect from a breakers.

Your taking the worse case senario and expanding on it instead of finding a cheaper/easyer elternative, ever heard of LPG ? and before everyone gets on the "yeh but they will just put that up campaign" LPG was capped till 2005, now 3 years later it's still half the price of petrol

I get 25 MPG from my Di transit, i used to get 19 from me petrol one, take into account petrol is cheaper than diesel and it works out about the same cost wise only servicing works out more cos there are more parts to change and you cant blame the goverment for the designe of the petrol engine

It's done, it's law get over it and get on with adapting, like i say to live in democrasy you have to accept the majoraty get what they want, the minoraty get shafted, in this instance some of us are in the minoraty, welcom to freedom

That is the biggest problem with this country mate so many people just let the government do what they like and are quite happy to let them do it

It worrys me to think where it will all end :?

I think if they keep getting away with loading us up on tax this tax that money here money there they will just carry on and on

It is a bit like having one bag of sand to carry then someone wacks another one on top of that to see how you get on....Eventually you will give up

So to be honest i dont see that we should have to go to the hassle of changing or converting our engines on our vans or even buying a new one just because of the government.Quite honestly i think it is an absolute disgrace and i would be extremely supprised if they would get away with it in any other countrys

For example in Holland they see speed cameras as being an infringement of their rights and they go out of their way to destroy them by any means possible

I think what we need to do in this stuation is all stand up fo ourselves and get out there and get some roadblocks/protests etc just like what the lorrys did when the fuel prices were going silly and get ourselves heard for once :mrgreen::beer::ykt:

The way I see it, here are the options.

1, buy a new truck, and add to the pollution it takes to make the thing, do this every 4 years so the planet has no respite from the factory's emmisions, even if the truck never turns a wheel it's already poluted the planet.

2, buy a tax exempt truck and fit a nice 80s cargo engine, tax exempt is exempt from the LEZ

3, register your truck in holland

4, buy a fleet of bicycle rickshaws or horse and carts

5,convert to petrol, I am sure there are a few 16L yank engines out there!! Would a 16L engine really use £200 of fuel a day more than a diesel?

Bear in mind this will apply to all diesel commercial vehicles over 2005 kg by 2010, so that's all transit sized vans, but not car derived ones. This is not going to go away, no matter who gets votedn in. It shouldn't have been let in in the first place. Do you knwo anybody who voted for this?

I have replaced my 5 tonne merc spec truck with a 3.5 tonne transit. I can use this till 2010. It pumps out twice the shit my old merc used to and the diesel lump will soon be replaced by a 2.9 granada engine. If my merc was still in use, the effect on the enviroment would be far less!!! This whole lez thing is a total no brainer, perhaps when London is a total deserted wasteland cos no one can afford to live in it then Ken kuntin livingstone will be happy

so to combat the LEZ you go and buy a brand new lorry so there you are pleased as punch with it then you notice theres a 2nd tank on it .. oh yeah thats where the new blue additive goes yet another expense and that shit aint cheap either so your still paying through the nose even when youve gone to a euro 4 or 5 engine you just cant win..:evil: come on ken do us all a favour and die... soon

Need to correct you there mate, you should have said that pi** ain't cheap because that is all ad-blue is sheeps wee wee.

LEZ, whilst we need to do something, I don't think this is it, it is hitting too many people too hard. We are forking out a fortune in new cats for our buses, as a london bus operator it won't put us out of business but with over a 1000 vehicles we are certainly feeling the effect. I feel for the small owner operator, how will they survive?

The whole thing is poorly thought out.

no sorry mk1 transit, think its a bull nosed 1

You sure it's not the 1969 green and cream one that has a duratorque and a 5 speed durashift in it? As seen in The Bank Job?

I have just heard about a candidate for mayor who is anti-LEZ, and I am awaiting a link to his site, he will get my vote
