Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 I would like to say thanks to the people at Box Hill yesterday who i pestered for info as to why my battery wouldn't charge despite trying 2x new alternators Saturday morning . Someone mentioned the bulb in the dashboard could be to blame and they was correct (i think it was Colin Ashton) so i fixed a loose wire in the dash and the battery is now charging . So thanks again people as i was suicidal yesterday morning trying to sort it .
LEONMEX Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 nice one ashton mobile was it a bad earth behind the dash gaz??
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 im glad u sorted it m8 NOW FIND MY MANIFOLD starting the search next weekend
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 nice one ashton mobile was it a bad earth behind the dash gaz??It was the bulb connection in the dashboard iteslf . So if you lose the ignition "on" light in the dash the battery won't charge as it needs this working to make a charging circuit
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 That wiring looks like headache material and i thought i had problems when my battery wouldn't charge
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 went out testing my new alternator today and it hasn't broken/exploded yet !!!!!! . Amazing how many people have had the same problem but you've never heard of it unless you ask about it at the meets etc . Broke the starter motor casing though so fitted another free one today (thanks jezz) . I've calculated my starter motor and alternator problems to have cost about £600 so far and that's only in about 10 trips out !!!!!!!!

kev16v Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 im glad u sorted it m8 NOW FIND MY MANIFOLD starting the search next weekend u told me about ur weekends lazy sundays an all that its ok if u dont find it soon i'll unbolt the one off ur car as u say everything keeps comming loose it wont take a lot to remove it
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Have you checked the alignment yet? It wont go away! checked the fan belt etc and it's spot bollock in line with no wobble etc . It must be the revs that's killing the alternators and i need a rubber mounted alternator bracket from an rs2000 . I tried a rubber bushed one the other day (not sure what car it was from) but the alternator body hits it so it's no good so need another . I've had the propshaft re-balanced in a vain attempt to stop the bolts from vibrating out so i'll see if that does the trick . The flywheels chopped my last new starter in half when the bolts fell out so that's well foooooked and joins the other 5 in the bin !!!!!!!! Plus now using nyloc nuts/locktight etc
Guest MK1gaz Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 if u dont find it soon i'll unbolt the one off ur car as u say everythingkeeps comming loose it wont take a lot to remove it Just follow behind and it will fall off , no need for tools !!!!!!!
