Im not sure weather its legit or a knackered old bda needing a rebuild for that money its too good to be true, most things like that are. might be a knackered old zetec he's trying to flog you. worth some investigation though. could be a pikey looking to nick your cars

X-pack-Glyn Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 I once drove miles to look at a cheap M reg RS2000... Its was true, he did have an M reg RS2000 for peanuts...a bloody 94 mk5/6? piece of crap... i like these types that have no idea what they got... i brought a brookie a few years back for 300 and a special for 150...
antz Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 but he seems a clued up guy..thats the problem. he is clued up yet wasnts peanuts for a bda...or what he says is a bda. i suspect its a zetec
antz Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 how could u confuse a zetec and bda big lump, twin cam, bda rocker cover and the untrained eye will never know!
Anglia68 Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Wow,that's cheap. A standard BDA is worth £2500 even if it needs a rebuild. A head on it's own is worth £1000. Other parts like cam carriers, cam covers, front covers etc are worth a couple of hundred each as are the cams and other bits and pieces. By the way most heads and cam carriers will have had welding done over the years especially around the thermostat housing and shouldn't be a problem but should be pressure tested to make sure they're not pourous. Any chance of a few pics?
antz Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 no pics sorry. i suspect its a lemon Next time i see him ill try and get more info on it and get some pics up. i am expecting ti to be a shitter though IF it is a real bda.
Anglia68 Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 big lump, twin cam, bda rocker cover and the untrained eye will never know! The BDA cam covers for a Zetec are all meant to look like dry sump ones with the mountings for mechanical fuel injection as well but still use the Zetec oil filler cap. Dead easy to spot.

Dead easy to spot. you have the trained eye ill try and find out more about this next time i see him. he said he would slot it into a mk1 escort he has at home and bring it round to mine cos he wants to swap it for my dad mk1
escortmad79 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Check the engine numbers haven't been ground off
herb capri Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 i had a non pikey experience that im trying to bring to a successful conclusion ,a mate of a mate etc,etc came into my workshop and asked if i might be interested in some old ford bits.....i took two months to get round to see him ,but he wasnt in a hurry, his dad left a load of old ford engines and stuff ,only a bda [worn but rally set and a mostly rebuilt bda, a BDG REBUILT!!! and lots mor choice stuff, all for cheap money it does happan sometimes,oh and there is also a bdg ally block still in the ford crate[the guy is thinking of makig a coffe table out of it!!!!!! now do you say loudly NOOOOO! or do as i did and say and say what??? itll mark this sweet pine floor!!,purchase still under negotiation will keep you informed
Anglia68 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Check the engine numbers haven't been ground off Unfortunately the BDA head is wider than the block so you can't see where the engine number usually is,in fact my BDA block has no number. The cam carrier and head do have numbers but there can be several and not even matching and you would need to ask someone like the AVO Club to tell you what they all mean.
antz Posted March 16, 2008 Author Report Posted March 16, 2008 next time i see him ill enquire into it more if it is a genuine bda and i can inspect it then YAHOO and if its not ill tell him in not a chump

NginEEr Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Even if it is a zetec with a fancy rocker cover id see how much he wanted for just the cover could get it cheap
