At the end of the day it all comes down to how good your car feels to drive, nothing else matters. Mine will never be the most powerful or fastest and I don't give a stuff cos it puts a smile on my face.

I think its a good way of getting a fair idea of the sort of power your mates car is pushing out. Like "I have just bought a saphire cosworth and it putting out 230BHP". Pretty standard car, were as "I have just bought a saphire cosworth and its producing 500BHP". But as braging rights I think its just the round ones. At the end of the day it only maters at the lights

Im not a power junky, I have always found that with power come a lot of ball ache and hassle. If my car can over take wagons on the motorway than Im happy

All the people who like engines will always want to talk about power , torque + speed . If you don't like engines then you won't

i found that people that talk about bhp, torque or power are those that have the cash to spend i cant even afford to get rolling roaded or a garage to set mine up properly i do it my self so have no idea what it puts out, all i know is it tops out at 125 mph

Some good points, but isn't it a bit of willy waving? say someone has 150 bhp and someone has say 160, is there really any noticeable difference?

Take the pod for instance, I've seen 190 brake cars beat 600 brake cars as a lot of it is down to the driver and the set up of the car. There's a lot of 'mine is better than yours' but in real terms it doesn't seem to correlate.

Does it relate to 'I spent £XXX on mine so it must be better than yours, so I am better than you' ?

The same as the concours queens then "my cars got original 1970's tyres and yours hasn't" or "my cars paints the right shade of red and yours isn't " . Willy waving of a different sort

Or "my cars only slow because i'm too tight to spend any money on the engine and spunk it all down the pub or on fags + drugs !!!!!!! "

I dont think it should ever be about money and if you spent £ks and £ks on a car/engine it doesnt necessarily mean the car is any better than anyone elses... often the opposite...

I personally like to know what my car is pushing out yet it is more to do with the tuning side of things and what it takes to get that power etc...

However down the pub I will freely admit bragging comes into it when I am comparing my 37 year old car with a modern scooby and the fact I could potentially kick its arse with much less power!!! its good to remind people old skool power is much much better :ykt:

Because people who like engines will spend money on them to make them fast and then talk about them to other people who do the same . Some people don't like/understand this and get a bit miffed about it yet they've probably just spent £10,000 on a kitchen (chipboard) instead !!!!!!!!!

That's different I think. I could spend thousands on an engine build and tell everyone how expensive it was and how superb the power is etc etc, but I just wouldn't. It seems that in any area of life, be it cars, or houses or just about anything, people seem to feel the need to tell everyone just how good their stuff is. Perhaps they were lonely children

my xflow has been built by wayne wpe dont know what it puts out and dont really care as long as i can have fun and go side ways in it and as for the jargon i dont give a shite cos i dont understand it anyway

I agree Rog. I suppose what I'm really trying to find out here is why it's so important? Not important as in the cars performance, but important to the person who owns the car

 @ jed

i think as long as you enjoy your car thats it, as for money i like my car to be the best i can afford it to be, i dont smoke, go to the pub or gamble, so i spend my money on my two hobbies, my car and my fishing

A fast car will have power and this makes it more fun than a standard slow one . People usually decide what they are prepared to spend their money on and some will buy engines and others will buy drugs , hookers , kitchens , watches , new plastic motors with diesil engines , £200 gucci shoes etc etc . Whatever you buy you will want to talk about it and compare it with other like minded people . I don't fancy going on oldskoolRolex.com much though !!!!!!!!:lol::lol:

to me its speed and I love it,the rush etc,it`s not down to beating the next person,I work nights and there`s not a sole about and I still drive fast,I also think like myself if and when I go up the strip I will want to keep beating my own times and bettering them and I think alot off people on here do it for those reasons, but whats wrong with competion away :thumbsup:

id imagine anyone whos had an engine built by someone else and paid "X" amount for an engine thats meant to produce "X" amount of bhp then id suspect the figures would matter quite a lot  which i could understand

me, im not too bothered about the figures. im never likley to put the 100e on a RR to find out so as long as the car melts its tyres, thats fine with me :ykt:

Although i can see the point of having a professional build your engine in that it will go well and hold together and produce the numbers. For me the fun is getting in the garage on a saturday afternoon with a case of kronenburg and building it my self whilst listening to Norwich city getting stuffed by a team you,ve probably never heard of on the radio.

If at the end of this it runs or runs well thats a bonus .I dont have numbers but will get an idea if its anygood by driving it.The engine i,ve recently built i,d rate at FAIR to MODERATE
