MexDan Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Should I drop the straight cut rocket box out of the mex and replace it with a standard better at cruising box?? The straight cut is fooking immense on country lanes and the noise is superb (nothing like the wine of a straight cut IMO) but its fooking crap for any motorway use- 70mph at 4k blasting my sodding ear drums till they bleed!!!! What ya recon????
kev16v Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 is it a 4 speed u sure its not a diff change u need???
MexDan Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 is it a 4 speed u sure its not a diff change u need??? Yeah its a TranX 4 speed close ratio rocket box.. I changed the diff from 4.4:1 to 4.1.. which I know is still not cruising teritory but thought it wud be a bit more bearable!! Would i get away with keeping the box and chucking it a 3.9.. but i dont wanna kill the acceleration!!! Are there any 3.9 Lsd's about?? What is friction reducer for the gearbox??? Do you have a link??? Cheers for you help lads
keeh Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 i say stop being a wimp and put up with the straight cut goodness play the music loud and do 60mph to save petrol
MexDan Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 i say stop being a wimp and put up with the straight cut goodness play the music loud and do 60mph to save petrol Music... Pah.. none of that modern technology in my wagon... lol
MexDan Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 i know that feeling mp3 player? Ipod mate And even that isn't loud enough to drown it out As i said.. round the lanes i wouldnt change that noise for the world.. but on the motorway its a different story!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 What is friction reducer for the gearbox??? Friction reducer is an oil additive which clings to the metal parts and cuts the noise down as there's less friction . Lots of different ones out there and even halfords sells it , you just squirt a small amount into the gearbox . Also make sure you have proper EP90 gear oil in your gearbox (smells like cats piss) and not any 75 or 80 watery shite
MexDan Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 Cheers Gaz I'll drop the oild out of the box and put some EP90 and friction reducer in it.. see what difference that makes Although I've heard refilling the gearbox is a pain in the arse????
MK2Ed Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Although I've heard refilling the gearbox is a pain in the arse???? Not if you've got a plunger thing with a long flexible tube on the end. Get one from any good motorfactors...
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Although I've heard refilling the gearbox is a pain in the arse???? Take out the propshaft and jack up the front of the car skywards . Put on the kettle and watch the T.V. for 1/2 an hour
trispage Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Crack the Stereo up on the motorway and turn it off in the lanes
