Stu_B Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 ...basically my new car stinks! After driving it for a few miles I stink of petrol fumes, I don't mind as it's all part of the experiance... but I'm worried that this may get picked up as unsafe in the MOT. I'm guessing it's from over-fuelled carbs. Would fitting air filters to my 40's reduce this?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 7, 2008 Admin Report Posted April 7, 2008 Have you checked for petrol leaks?
Stu_B Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 I think it's a combination of over-fueled carbs & a not very well sealed car letting in fumes from the breather
Stu_B Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 I can live with it (unless I fall unconscious at the wheel...) for now & fix it when I get a chance, but the cars going in for an MOT in the next coupla weeks... could this be a fail?
bomber1 Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 get a fire extenguisher stop the over fueling and dont put filters on until the over fueling is sorted as they will soak up the fuel and u will need an even bigger extinguisher to put the hole lot out
Rick Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 is there a breather on the petrol tank piped outside the car?> if not the petrol is evaporating into the car, either that or you got a leak
Stu_B Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 is there a breather on the petrol tank piped outside the car?> if not the petrol is evaporating into the car, either that or you got a leak The breather is apparently housed in the offside rear pillar.. I will check it's ok... I think it's more likely to be coming from the twin 40's though.
escortmad79 Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Check all the lines for leaks especially the nipples
