MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 I've got a lightened flywheel..... Which means the mex is crap when you just dump it off the lights... its even fooking difficult to spin the wheels up in the dry... So.. should I bother getting the engine out to change the flywheel?
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Shouldn't be that bad m8, sounds like you have other problems...
MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 Shouldn't be that bad m8, sounds like you have other problems... Oh deep joy.. more problems So what would we be looking at then... once we are moving it seriously shifts... but even if i hold it at 4-5K n drop the smoking pedal it dies off alot. But it doesnt sound like there is any problem with the engine.. just sounds like it being laboured...
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Sounds like you could have a large chunk off torque missing lower down the rev range.
MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 Best I get sending PM's to those trusty OSF Engine Tuner's then!!
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Have you had the car set up on the rollers m8 ?
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 my pinto has a 3kg steel flywheel (normaly 7.5 kg cast ones i think) and i did notice initialy it was a bit boggy when pulling off but it dont half shift, and in second if i dip the clutch and let the revs raise and drop the clutch it breaks the back end away sweet (its lsd too). but sometimes i do miss the standard flywheel, i think with the lighter ones you do loose a massive chunk of low down grunt.
MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 Have you had the car set up on the rollers m8 ? No I havent had it setup on the rollers... I was planning on getting one of the tuner's on here to look at it Would it be better going over to the rollers then???
MK2Ed Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Have you had the car set up on the rollers m8 ? No I havent had it setup on the rollers... I was planning on getting one of the tuner's on here to look at it Would it be better going over to the rollers then??? I'd get a quick session on the rollers to analyse problem - could save u £x in the long run...
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 wot steve says or your gearing is wrong Or a combination of both The engine problem may not be that bad but the gearing could be highlighting the problem.

Its matched up to a close ratio straight cut box so I had assumed gearing wouldnt have been too much of a issue?? Whats the going rate roughly for a rolling road session??? Cheers Lads
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 If its close ratio it may have a long first gear ?? I paid £130 or £140 can't remember now at Track & Road in Essex, they are just five minutes the other side of Dartford tunnel.
MexDan Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 Gear Ratios are 2.38:1, 1.69:1, 1.27:1, 1.00:1.. is tht a particuarly long first gear??? I will give track and road a call... Thanks for you help steve
