haveing just instaled my pinto into my escort ime now haveing trouble starting up.i saw the engine running befor i bought it.ive even had the engine runnin myself but now ime not getting a spark.ive bought brand new, dizzy cap,rotor arm,spark plugs,ht leads coil.

its working on a lumination electronic ignition.last week it started and now it wont.gggrrrr

 

can anyone help.ive been advised that the ignition box might of gone down.(

Is the dizzy earthed? my cappa did that,wouldnt run,changed coild and still no go,found that the dizzy desided that it wouldnt earth through the engine.

I had to run a new wire from the capasitor to the engine mount.

worth trying mate.

try cleaning the plugs to your distrbutor from the control unit i had similar trouble with a bad plug i ended cutting the plug out an re wiring it for peace of mind another thing i had was for some reason when ever i connected the rev counter up to my coil using electronic ignition i lost the spark i disconected it an it ran fine its worth a try good luck

have you checked to make sure you have 12v at the coil? im sure lumenition run 12v and if youve wired it to the original loom you could still be useing the ballast resistor which drops it down to 9 volts, and they dont like starting then :? worth a try mate :thumbsup:

well firstly the rev counter has never been back onto the coil because i aint got round to it yet.i also though of the 9v coil.i am useing the original loom so i went a bought a 12v coil.still no good.the thing is i had it running last week.but now its fooked.ime in desperate need of getting it started beacause everything else is dont once its started i can go for a spin.its beginning to piss me orf.

i bet its the luminition module, i had 2 pack up on me they are crap :wink: is it silver or black, the black is supposed to run with a special black coil, :thumbsup:

 

bung a condensor and points back in and see if she goes then :thumbsup:

it is the black moduale.its pissin me off because it worked last week when i had no brakes,but now ive got brakes it wont start.nat.the spark plugs are brand new m8.but ill clean them all the same.ime trying everything.)

 

ive been told to put pionta and condesnser back in.but does that mean i have to but a whole new dizzy or will they go back into the one ive got with the electronic ignition???

The chopper is a 4 bladed piece of plastic which breaks the light beam used on Lumenition. It's under the dizzy cap.

 

Firstly I suggest back tracking your steps - did you change anything prior to it stopping working? The frustration could be affecting your problem solving logic!! :ykt:

 

Secondly try looking on the lumenition web site for information.

 

Thirdly ring Lumenition for a fault finding method.

 

Fourthly - Hang in there man!! :thumbsup:

mate as far as ime aware i didnt change anything.

 

ive rang lumination and they said they were goin to email me a diognostic email of everything to check but they never did.the only thin ive done changed sinse haveing it running was buying a new battery,because i had to jump start if offa my other car.

 

its so frustrating knowing i could be driveing it(if it started).thanx for the advice anyway guys keep it pouring in. :thumbsup:

yyyyaaaaayyyy i got sparks..it was what ollywally said.i took off the dizzy and noticd the earth wire was perished.so i undid the nuts put slid a piece of wire in,fasted it back up and fastend it to the engine and now it sparks.

 

hopefully should be out in it tomorow night.
