MK2Ed Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 If it's fast then i suppose it's alright though That my friend has got to be the most sensible thing you have ever typed Notice the sensible cautionary "though" on the end though...
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 lol , believe it or not i already own a few oldskool turbo motors (well in bits and scattered around the place) so i'm not exactly anti-turbo . I wouldn't mind a supercharger for a change though
MK2Ed Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I wouldn't mind a supercharger for a change though Supercharger is different-ish… and footwork has been done before - I’ve heard of supercharged pintos & x flows (and lots of other engines) using the M45 but think the Eaton, all in, costs a fair sum and setting up isn’t as straightforward as all that … The idea is they provide the perfect amount of air into the engine each time the valves open... Apparently the aim is to get 130% as this is the most efficient level, allowing it to burn more fuel in a given cycle and produce more power. A normal N/A engine is about 70-80% (but the more you tune them the better it gets - as u know ). They rob horsepower to run them though…….. but you are supposed to net a lot more than the loss. U should size the charger to suit the engine size. There is no big kick of power like a turbo, just seamless torque and decent idle/cruise .... Lots on the Internet for research if anyone’s interested under ‘Eaton M45’…
SmokeEm Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Nat from here has sucessfully used one on his Pinto Capri. On a recent dyno, he managed 199bhp it think! That is FULLY home built. I think the spec is something like 2.0l, Injection Head, 38DGAS, FR32 cam & megajolt ignition. Haven't been in it yet but hope to at this years COC. Honestly guys, what Nat has acheived on a student budget with no proffesional input is amazing

So, roughly, the home built 2.0l, Injection Head, 38DGAS, FR32 cam & megajolt ignition will give you 130hp so the home installed Supercharger has added 69hp... Respec'.
