Speaking of Metros....(or Romet as I once saw one badged in Banbury!)

 

My first car was a Chuvvit & one night I was driving down past where this bird lived that I fancied like mad. Anyway, she was out front with a couple of her mates, so old Tinky thought he'd try to impress her. Booted said Chuvvit past her place & managed to lose it, ending up planted in the side of a 6 week old Romet (this was 1987!) £125 to repair my car, £1500 to put the Romet right....

 

Another Romet incident was when I raced this muppet in his ma's Romet Vanden Plas again in the Chuvvit. He was trying to impress his mates in the car & tried to overtake me in the town but I wouldn't let him past. We were rapidly approaching a roundabout, neither letting up on the gas, & proceeded to come together. Mummy's boy hit the traffic island, I just got the hell out of there so didn't see the aftermath....

He did track me down a few weeks later, as a lime green Chuvvit in a small town is hard to hide. Result - Chuvvit 1 Romet 0!

my dad has the worst luck with cars ever!

 

when he was 17 he was riding down a country lane on a moped and a mini clubman pretending to be a rally driver took him out completely!..he was in hospital for months and lost his right arm

 

a few years later he was driving a brand new pickup down a country road again and a tractor pulled out into the side of him and pushed him into the front of another tractor! ..he wrote off the pickup. my dad now has a HUGE scar up his leg and it mashed up his knees and ankles because he got his foot stuck under the clutch.

 

THEN

 

during the fuel crisis a few years back he was going through a village in a 30mph limit driving a subaru legacy he bought one 2 weeks earlier. there was a car turning into a side junction and my dad was 3 cars back.a vauxhall cavalier doing 90mph came flying up behind him, slammed on the brakes and skidded into him taking out the rear quarter on teh car completely. my dads car bounced 3 foot in teh air, hit the peugeot in front in the middle of the tailgate and landed back where he was before.

 

completely wrote off the legacy, as for the cavalier it bottomed out, the wheels collapsed, exhaust rolled down teh road and radiator exploded.

Vauxhall Astra GTE 16V.

 

Barrel rolled of Snake Pass a total of 8 times. The roof was pitched by the time i came to a stop.

 

Why did i get flung off the road?

 

Rain? Nope...

 

Snow? Nope...

 

Buttered tyres? Nope...

 

MKIII Capri 2.8i Special hitting the back of me due to him locking up and sliding at full speed...yep.

 

And yet, oddly, i still love old Fords!

well that would be last night all ill say is lucky its a landy lol

 

 

was caning it through some country lanes slowed down alot for what i knew was a sharp right hand corner and as im going round it the rear passenger side tyre picked up a 3inch bolt and all the air decided to come out of it so the back started to slide like a mofo and i was going proper sideways giving it full opposite lock but then all 4 wheels decided to stop sliding and grip all at the same time and launched me up a 3 foot bank into a hedge

 

reversed out drove down the road to a wide patch and changed whel for the spare and carried on driving lol the front bumper is slightly bent as a was a good 3 foot into the hedge
