shaun1.6ghia Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 got the escort mot'd an taxed last night, took it for its first proper rip.. everything was goin smoothly then put it in first at the lights an the stick pushed right forward an can push left (from drivers view). it does this in third too. but second and fourth is jus a bit wobbily in gear an it still goes in reverse fine. it doesn't pop out of gear and the stick don't move when reving, so what a bummer... im absolutely gutted... do i need a new gearbox for classic ford??? please help.. ideas???

shaun1.6ghia Posted May 22, 2008 Author Report Posted May 22, 2008 just stripped it and its just came free, not too much of a problem but the 3rd gear noise is now overpowering the engine and as we thought it was loose metal from a broken stick (which the stick is like new, just loose) things are looking worse, and there seems to be fileings in the box. feeling a bit atm thanks guys...

shaun1.6ghia Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 only just filled it up an diff oil is full too... im not sure if its the prop being too long, cus the manual box was on the auto crossmember an sitting low so we lifted it up. that might have put too much pressure on the box... what do i do if it is too long?? do you cut it? an where? thanks guys...

shaun1.6ghia Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 might do yet, jus picked up a box from a mk1 1.3l so gonna give that a go to get me to classic ford, it was the right £££. well i like the 4 speed, but might go 2l soon so will jus look for a good box, what do people think?? new, old, 4 speed, 5 speed, anyone got ideas/price ranges? i dont know any good companies that recondition or sell. thanks guys...
