ekjim Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 has anyone run a 12second pass on an open english diff ? i managed 13.5 at 110mph last season firstly on an open 3.77 diff then changed this for a welded a 3.89. this gave me the same!!! but because of my bodged job of welding, the diff broke on launching. as i've still not got the money together for a slip diff, i was going to fit a 3.54 unit on my quest to break into the twelves what do you guys think ?
RUSTYPUP Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 I doubt putting in a 3.5 will improve your times. Almost certainly make it worse
quickrack Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Bigger the Ratio better your times will be eg 4.11 5.11 Any 1100 esort had them. Stick one in and try it
bortaf Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Depends really, if you go too low and need to grab an extra gear before the line it could be slower
ASBO CAPRI Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 A higher ratio in your diff would need a torquey engine to pull it and a light car. Most drag cars opt for the lowest ratio posible in the diff. 4.1:1 seems to be the best ratio even the v8 muscle cars with huge amounts of torque go for this ratio.
ekjim Posted May 25, 2008 Author Report Posted May 25, 2008 thanks i was thinking of a higher ratio to begin with but when i changed from 3.77 to 3.89 there was no difference with et or mph, although the 3.89 was welded. i was in fourth gear across the finish line at just over 6000rpm. the reason i was thinking going 3.54 is some of the cossie turbo guys seem to run good times with this ratio, any other views would be appreciated
emu Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 The cossie turbo boys run good times with a 3.54 because they have shitloads of power and torque. Bung in a 4.1
