engine novice

[Durham Fiesta]

just been having a look at a fiesta x flow engine, its just had machining work and new pistons etc. Its on a stand at the moment and turns over by hand really nice, but when turning it over there is the sound of air leaking from the bottom end . It doesn't have a sump on so the sound is noticable. Is this normal or doesn it mean something aint quite right??

sounds normal too me mate just the compression releasing but im used to modern engines so someone else will know for definate

i think thatl be ok, its just the compressed air passing the rings (btw that happens on all engines at slow speeds) hence the need for crankcase ventilation.

 

if your worried, when you can, (engine assembled and able to crank over) do a compression check to make sure all cylinders are equal and within the specs..

glad to hear that. Was thinking along the lines that the rings don't provide an air tight seal so air is bound to escape
