just got the new 40DCOE on the engine running.... had a few problems and i need to know a few things ASAP

is the idle just controled by how tight the throttle linkage is?

which screws do i twist to lean the throttle out as its running waaaay too rich

any advice on setting it up with verry few tools and in a short period of time would be good.

i ment to be going to the show in the lake distric tomorrow but this might just stop me going. :(

The idle is controlled by the idle screw which should be at one end of the carb and will screw against a bit of the end linkage plate - not a great explaination but it will be on the end of the butterfly spindle basically.

Then there are two mixture screws - near the manifold end of the carb - one for each choke. Normally you screw these in - really gently - as far as they go (untill you feel the slightest resistance or you can damage the carb body) then wind them both out equally about 2.5 turns, then with the engine running wind both screws in / out about 1/8 of a turn at a time until you find the fastest idle, keep winding the idle down with the idle screw, and then get back on the mixture screws untill you've found the best place for the mixture screws.

If you cant tell by listening have a look at the rev counter.:thumbsup:

ohhh itll stop you going!!!! fast....

ive just done the swap and took my carbs in for professional tunuing (at yorkshire carbourettas) ... search google but i cant reccomend them for their service as they had my car 2MONTHS!!!!

anyway. take em there and the guy there is a master. theres more to it that just tinkering with idle screws and the linkages, theres the float chambers making sure its jetted right pump diaphragms linkage synchronising the carbs using a carb synchroniser.

and thats even before you start to play with the mixture!

so no matter how good you'll get it... he'll get it 10x better!
