BronzeRS Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 Basic question really. My usual insurance is about 150quid for the car. It has been modified slightly... lowered, rollcage, hot cam, tanks in boot etc etc... But I sent some photos for agreed value and then had my insurance company on my back saying that I had too many mods to my car for them to continue insuring it at the price i was on. They were classing unoriginal seats, unoriginal paint as mods even though the seats are just seats; not anything special. they now have quoted me 250 quid for comprehensive cover at 1500mile limit which personally I think is taking the piss!! I have a clean license and have never had endorsements. i started driving over fifteen years ago. The car has about seven or eight mods and I am sure I could get it cheaper. My question is Can I get it cheaper and if so, then with whom?? Cheers.

jlf70 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I have a 2dr mk2 pop, modified with 1700 x-flow,285 cam, lowered and uprated, polished rs alloys, front and rear mex spoilers, rolltop rs interior etc, all declared. I am with AON and I am currently paying £175. The policy is unlimited mileage and guaranteed value based on the car being garaged overnight. Hope this helps Jason
dogdish Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Unmodified Capri 1.6LS through Footman James is £99! Thats with 4500 mile limit and european breakdown AND wife on it too.
Vista Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 As above, Footman James. Mine is heavily modded and I have two cars on the one policy, and agreed values (high ones) and unlimited mileage on both. Mine is around £360 I think.
Noodles Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 My insurance certificate just says 'Is the vehicle modified engine wise or bodywork wise to that of orginal factory production-Yes' good enough for me
andygfc Posted June 22, 2008 Report Posted June 22, 2008 Roll cage is the biggest factor. As soon as you add that they bump it right up. My last insurance company wanted £100 extra for the cage alone.
BronzeRS Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 So................. Would you say with roll cage, twin fuel tanks in boot, battery in boot, performance cam and stage 1 head, strut braced, delocked, fuel filler taken of side of car, lowered, performance carb and manifolds etc etc and agrred value at 248 a good price, includes european recovery!!!
