my escort was registed on the 06/02/1973 is there any way of finding out if would come under tax exemption ie built before dec 72 but registed in 73

it goes on the chassis number mate :thumbsup:

 

...mine was built Jan 73 and registered Feb 73 , still no FREE tax for me though :sad: You have got to prove it was built before 31st December 1972 .

you need to look on ur chassis plate,the build code needs tobe an M number for a 72build,if its N then its a 73 build

nat that M mean it started life out as a L.

the part you need to look at is the Vehicle No

 

its the last 2 number that you need to look at

 

for example

BFATPJ

the PJ part is the build code

On the pic below, the bottom left chassis plate is for mk1 Escorts from Aug 1970 on, and the bottom right is upto Aug 1970

 

On the early type, the last two letters of the vehicle number in the centre determine the build date from the table above. This car was KL equating to Jan 1970

 

On the late type, the last two letters in the vehicle number (top row third box from left) determine the build date. This car was PJ though which should be May 74 but there's a misprint in the table showing May 74 as PI
