capriv8 Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 Love them or hate them but what is it about them that makes people so mad. we holiday in one most months in the summer. On the motorway and dual carigeways i stick to the national speed limit (70) with no problem (unless its really windy!) the only place i slow down is on roads where my van is probably going to go over the white line just as another van, caravan landrover comes round the corner. the thing that i am wondering about is why roughly every 20 mins someone toots, overtakes supidly, whilst waving the 2 finger salute! My wife and daughter hate it and the dog usually pees herself alover the boot carpet! i pull in regularly when theres mor than 3 cars behind me, but there is always one idiot! what am i doing wrong????
FredTransit Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 You sound like you are doing everything right. My personal opinion is mostly caravans are towed occasionally by people who shouldn't be allowed to. In a few years I can see this changing, as people who passed their tests after 1997 need to take another test to tow something bigger that 1M square. That will sort the men from the boys
richie_stix Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 nothin mate, i hate caravaners (you are now an exception) but you are one of the rare ones who pull over! it is weird tho cos my mum/dad are often towing a horse box real slow, but no one ever gives us shit? must be somehting about carvans i gues? most caravan owners almost seem to relish in the fact they are holding people up and causing tailbacks!
Stu_B Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 You're doing it right mate Pulling over when you get a queue is something everyone should do. I have to survey roads sometimes which means driving along at about 30/40mph noting down the condition of signs & lines. I always pull over when I can cos I know how frustrating it is being stuck behind a slow vehicle & it makes people do silly manoeuvres.
hotrodholty Posted July 25, 2008 Report Posted July 25, 2008 most caravan drivers are a million years old half deaf, half blind and dont give a hoot about anyone else on the road, you are a rare breed mate
capriv8 Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 the rules did change in 1997 but not as strongly as you suggest. All it means is the train weight cant be more than 3500 and it is recommended that you dont exceed 80% car to van weight cheers for your support - i am thinking of adding a sign on the back that says 'i'll pull over as soon as i can, honk to let me know you are waiting!'
