when u have a turreted rear end on a mk1 escort is it possible to do away with the rear leaf springs.

i was thinking maybe run bars from the forward spring mounting points to the bracket il have for mounting my turreted shockers on

are these anti tramp bars

forgive me if its a daft question...

i was just under the nissan micra earlier and thats pretty much how that works...

as i say iv never messed with axles i have no idea

The whole point of turrets is so you can mount coilovers in them.

:D

Then you have to four link the rear axle to locate it correctly and to take up the task the leafs previously had. That's my understanding of it anyhoo.

The whole point of turrets is so you can have longer shock absorber travel, with a turret type shock absorber. Thus giving a cooler shock absorber in rough conditions. Depending on what you are going to do with your car depends on weather coil overs are an advantage.

But I wouldn't recommend using both!

In fact the coil over set up alone, puts far more stress on the shell than leaf springs.

My philosophy is if the 4 link and slipper springs worked well for Ford in the day, it's good for me.
