johnny_h Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 How did you do it? Do they foul the rear arches. If you are using stretched rubber is the handling really bad?
mk1mexico Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 its a bugger mate mine still catch sometimes. You have to start by removing all the lip from the rear arches and i mean ALL of it. Then rustproof it somehow. i have adjustable spax on mine and its lowered 2 inches but they are not set on too harder setting. Its on 175/50 tyres which make the handling awesome in my opinion much more responsive than before. Its all worth it though because it looks the dogs danglies. Also you will find one side catches more than the other, this is because the axles are never in the centre of the car, a standard escort will always run out of line by a few millimetres(mines about 7mm to one side). I tried to solve this by moving the axle across and retightening everything but a few days later it returned to its original position.Short of welding it all together or 4 linking ya have to put up with it. hope this helps
johnny_h Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 Hmmm even after cutting away the entire lip you still get them caught. I think i'll stick to the 6" to be safe. Thanks for the info anyway.
mk1mexico Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 yep thats anpther answer but then they dont look like they shouldnt fit if you understand what i mean
johnny_h Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 FIT AN ANGLIA AXLE Someone else just mentioned that to me. Anyone done this?
russ350lc Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 yep thats anpther answer but then they dont look like they shouldnt fit if you understand what i mean I KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT ONCE THE AXLE IS ON YOU CAN LOWER THE CAR ANOTHER 5 INCHES WHICH TOTALY FILLS THE ARCHES
johnny_h Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3 INCHES NOT 5 So how many inches of lowering block alltogether?
russ350lc Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 3" WELD ON BLOCKS WITH DECAMBERED LEAVES,GAVE US ABOUT 4.5"-5" LOWER THAN STANDARD. STIFFER SHOCKS,THROW BUMP STOPS AWAY AND MOD DIFF TUNNEL . http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... highlight= PICTURE OF HOW LOW THAT IS ON WHITE ESCORT ON ABOVE LINK
Retromotorsport Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Or just get the right offset wheels .... here we go again .. lol
Paul F Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 I think I'm getting the hang of this offset gubbins now... Retro might have to back me up on this, but... the first link is to a set of 13x7 wheels like the superlites (they may even be superlites) - they have an offset of ET-7. The second link is to some 13x7 Revolution Minitors with an offset of ET - 0. So if I'm not mistaken the Minitors will fit better under an escort arch because they are 7mil further in from the outer rear arch? http://www.jmcmotorsport.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=741 http://www.jmcmotorsport.co.uk/product_ ... ts_id=1391 Am I right?!
Morley Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 As for the handling issues... Have a look in Retro Ford mag, September issue... We tested the ol' 175/50s If you run an Anglia axle you may well have to space the wheels out a bit as its that bit too short or Get wheels with the right offset
johnny_h Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 SORTED! 7 x 13 Revolution Minitor Competition Spec Wheel Very High Quality Finish Offset ET - 0 PCD 108mm Ford Fitment Escort Mk1, Mk2: Fits Under a Standard Arch Cheers guys. I re-read the tyre test today Ben thanks. Great mag btw. First issue came out just as I bought my MK1. spooky!
mk1mexico Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 when i bought my superlite wheels from JMC it also said they fit under a standard arch
johnny_h Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 when i bought my superlite wheels from JMC it also said they fit under a standard arch arse
Rich Sav Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 ive got 7X13 superlights on my mk 1 with an 105e axle u will need 1" spacers on each side but they fit lovley and u can even get 250/60/13 tyres on no problem was considerin goin 8" on the back but prefer the look of the 7"s one thing u need 2 go tho is move the spring saddles on the axle 2 sute the escort axle as the 105e is thinner
johnny_h Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 The minitors don't look half as good
Paul F Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 I'd say they both look pretty snazzy! Better than RS alloys anyway. The only downside is I can't find anywhere that does wheel and tyre deals with the Minitors... I'm so tempted by JMC's 175-50-13 yoko's with the superlites
Retromotorsport Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/large_wheel_pages/classic_rs1.html
Paul F Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 ok i'll rephrase that...better than MY rs alloys
Retromotorsport Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 ok i'll rephrase that...better than MY rs alloys Any offset you like up to 16" wide ..lol And on a car .. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=104691 the dogs danglies
sambo Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 So, to sum up then... you cant run 7" superlites with anything other than 175/50 tyres on an escort axle. But use an anglia axle and its ok with other profiles??
