Petter Olsen Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 That was a rare barn find Looks like a good project
Savvi Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 He had his guys on it today. They found some rot on the lower inner lip of the inner wing under the front wheel arch that needs plating, some holes in the front driver footwell, going to fit a floor pan as he has one in stock. Took off the 40's for refurb at a later date, fitted a standard Mex carb and got it running with a battery and fresh fuel, engine sound sweet good oil pressure with the new oil and filter. All the electrics are working so everything is good so far ............... got to sort the brakes and hydraulic clutch next !!!!!
mk1rob Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Thats a great find! Just got the new issue of classic ford and theres another barn find of a mex in the same colour!
lotusless Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 they will take the rear seats out next + find an original copy of the bible + a clear picture of a yeti riding a unicorn
Savvi Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 they will take the rear seats out next + find an original copyof the bible + a clear picture of a yeti riding a unicorn They've already took out the interior and sadly no bible or anything similar just a few new and used parts a spare black head lining, struts, twin solex carbs on a X flow manifold (now for sale) and a set of Rs alloys. Luckily the guy who had it previously knew enough about them to keep the parts that are sort after from a Mexico he had written off some years ago. I just wish it had been me who had found and bought it still it's nice to be involved in getting it back on the road.
Fiesta Steve Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 dont cut it up sell it to make so i can have twins The chairman of either the Rs or Avo club, just bought the roof off the last Mexico he bought. He had the car blasted and found there was nothing left except the roof chairman of the avo lives in oxford and chairman of the rsoc has a mk4 escort turbo That's what he was told when it was collected, said he was localish ? has quite a few rs1600's ? think he was havin his leg pulled abit then lol, if I had a pound everytime I heard that so and so used to belong to the chairman of the rs/avo club or whatever I'd have about a fiver by now I think its something blaggers say to make something more saleable. Escort looks good I rekon a good wash and a good coat of looking at will get that sorted

Escort looks good I rekon a good wash and a good coat of looking at will get that sorted The weid thing is it was the buyer who was blagging it, he'd already paid via ebay, just can't see the point of what he did ? We tried a little polish today it got most of the rust spots off but it will need a respray to make it look good again.
surfingturnip Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 those seats and the rear wheels on that are awesome. The whole car looks great as well tbh
Savvi Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 The seats are going back in for now, we'd like a more original set if possible. The rear wheels are Mk2 Escort & Capri Ghia alloys i think ? We had some good and some bad news today. Good news is with a polishing mop and some cutting compond most of the dirt and rust disappeared, also found it's been fitted with bilies The bad news is when they went to replace the worn strut top mounts they found some more rust So on the phone and ordered some new strut top plates and repair panel ready for the Mot next week the original avo plate with the vin number was removed carefully so it can be re used. Some pics taken today:
5hane Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 shame about that dent in the o/s/f wng bet there gen too ?
Savvi Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 It looks as though it 's had wings and respray earlier in it's life, but certainly not for the last 20 years. It did surprise us some what at how nice it's come up and yes the parts that have been polished do look very good, shame that it has tiny specs of surface rust showing through some parts of the paint. Tim has said there's a local show on next month and i have been told i can take it, if it's on the road by then P.s the boy with the big smile in the pics is my son Harry !!!!! Start them young i say.
Savvi Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 shame about that dent in the o/s/f wng bet there gen too ? The guys boss did that on his gate post when he borrowed it to "pop home" one lunch time. He was the guy who told us about it.
tim Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Tim has said there's a local show on next month and i have been told i can take it, if it's on the road by then yes the car will be there colin,be rude not to with the show so close
Savvi Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 Steve and i would like it to be there, just finding a few more things wrong with it, and as we said today there's no point in rushing it. Hopefully if the top plates arrive tomorrow then the welding can start, not sure whether to remove the wing and redo the wing mounting panels or leave it as it is for now ? I suggested removing the engine and painting out the engine bay but i got "the look"
