DIY panhard bar.

Could i make my own panhard bar and brackets.

I have a nice steel bar which i can use. just got to get some rose joints for it and i have steel to make brackets.

Question tho. Would i have to make the bracket on the body go through the floor as im not botherd about adjusting it just need to hold axle in place.

Yes you could, it would be fairly straightforward (but time consuming). BUT by the time you finished you would probably wished you'd just bought one new for £50. Especially when you look at the cost of Rose Joints.

 

The bracket for a panhard rod doesn't go through th floor, it is welded to the chassis rail to stop lateral movement - so no floor cutting needed.

If you're going to use steel bar and make your own brackets then there's no reason to have a rose-joint to make it adjustable as you can make it to fit your brackets with bushes both ends as long as the bar's long enough.

The body bracket doesn't have to go through the chassis either but make sure it's well braced.

i made mine,easy to do, used 3/4 steel gas tube, free from work .weld a 12mm nut on the end. . cheap male rose joint about £14.00 from local bearing place, used a 12mm bolt to bolt to axle. flat plate to make bracket to weld to axle. inner track control arm bush for chassis end. i think about 2"box section welded from chassis rail with a cut out for the bar to go in.then braced it all up to under side of floor pan, copy it from a pic and make in position. sounds tight ,but i am also need 2 spacers to go either side of rose joint to allow it to twist. didnt go through floor.

make sure the panhard rod is fitted horizontal not at an angle
